Sudden anaemia?

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all well. So I recently did a blood test and my GP sent me a message a few days ago stating that I have anaemia. I eat a mixed, varied and balanced diet and take multi vitamins too so this came as a bit of a surprise really.

They're prescribing medicine to me and it's really big pills I don't want to take because I can't swallow them.

What sort of foods can I eat that is high in iron and low in fibre? (I need a low fibre diet for my IBS).

I am thinking that this might be a sign of pregnancy too but AF is due today so I'll have to wait and see.

What do you think it could be?

You probably got anemia because your IBS is impacting the absorption of nutrients from your food. Have you had your Vit D and B12 levels tested too? If not suggest you do. With bowel conditions no amount of diet changes can impact nutrient absorption; but supplements help. Ask for a different kind - I take ferrous sulphate from behind the counter in Boots. They are tiny and relatively kind to your tummy if you take them with meals

Thank you.

My husband bought floradix from Boots yesterday so I'll be taking that. I did notice something else too. My period was due yesterday and the day before I seemed to get a few streaks of blood with my discharge. It was red but a very small amount. Yesterday I noticed some pinkish discharge on the pad and during the night I had cramps but today, nothing. Can this be caused by anaemia?
