Am I missing something with travel systems?

Everywhere I look is pushing travel systems.... highlighting that the car seat can be lifted out the car and slot straight into the buggy.

Am I missing something? Aren't we now told that it is not a good thing for small babies to spend time in sitting positions/ car seats as they can pose a dangerous risk to a child's breathing?

Always amazes me as well that babies shouldn't be in car seats for long periods of time. I see people who use them on buggies for hours at a time.
However, having said that it is helpful for a 2 min pop into the shop. I wouldn't have child in longer than about 20-30 mins tops if I was going to be longer than that I would use the carrycot or proper buggy seat.

We didn't get one, if taking DD out in the car she'd go in the sling while we did the shopping or whatever. Car seats are also heavy and awkward to get in and out of the car.

I have had bugaboo and I found it a god send to have the seat adaptors. If I walked a school run baby would be in the carrycot and would sleep. If I drove on colder days etc and baby was asleep in the seat it was so much easier to just lift the seat out, run into school to get my eldest then pop back in the car and go home again without having to disturb a sleeping baby for the sake of 5 minutes of getting out of the car.

If it's not a quick nip out of the car I of course use the carrycot as I do like a baby to be laying flat where possible

2 DC and the only time one was ever in the car seat out of the car was when I had to go to the dentist which was on the second floor with no lift and I needed somewhere secure to leave DS.

But when on maternity leave I did end up popping to supermarket on foot most days to keep.up supplies so we very rarely did short trips in car.

Both of mine would usually transfer to buggy and stay asleep for a good bit anyway.
