Was your morning sickness worse with DC2? Having a rough time!

Hi

Got DD aged 3. Had morning sickness with her but I was not prepared for it to be this bad this time round! I’m really struggling.

Not actually being sick but feeling so so rough. Calorie intake has halfed, not even really drinking. Hammering the gaviscon. CBeebies on all the time! Do have a great DH but worried about how I’m going to get through work the next few weeks and the commute to work on a rancid, packed commuter train.

I guess I’m just having a moan (!) and also asking - was your MS worse with DC2 and how long did it last? I’m 7+3.

Thanks ladies.

Don't be ashamed, mine does the same. Nursery smell is the worse.

duebaby2 · 20/05/2019 16:33

It was manageable but long with my first yet with my second (this one) it was awful but cleared up quicker. I stopped feeling naff about 8/9 weeks with this baby where as I felt naff until 11 weeks with my first

toasterstrudle · 20/05/2019 17:00

MUCH worse this time! Had hyperemesis and am still sick every day at 36+4, although it eased off a bit around 20 weeks where it just changed to mornings only. Was signed off work for a month, had to go to hospital for fluids, on a range of different anti sickness tablets.

My advice is to eat what you can, when you can, try and keep your pregnancy supplements down (I now have iron deficiency), see your gp for anti sickness meds and explain how you are feeling! You can also get signed off.

Thoughts are with you, it was truly awful. Definitely my last child!

Gettingonabitnow · 20/05/2019 17:27

Thanks both. Saliva currently building in mouth on train home, I can’t think of a worse place to be than a rush hour train with morning sickness 🤢

It was in that I had a couple of/ few weeks feeling queasy whereas I never even felt pregnant with dc1.
It definitely passed by 12 weeks, I hope yours is the same!

Soov567 · 20/05/2019 19:45

Hope you got home ok and the train journey wasn’t too awful. Thought I’d update on cyclizine as I’ve taken it for a day now. Think it’s reduced the nausea although not made it disappear completely. I’ve also felt tired, a bit “out of it” and headachey but hard to know if that’s just because I’m not eating much. Definitely preferable to the 24/7 nausea though so will be asking for a repeat prescription. Hope this is useful to someone on here!

Stringervest · 20/05/2019 19:59

I'm extremely interested to hear about your progress with cyclizine! Please do keep updating. I'm glad to hear that it has helped a little today.

We are trying for DC2 but I've been putting it off for a while because of my fear of the nausea. I had it very badly last time, I work full time and my work is a lot more pressurised than it was last time. I'm not sure how I'll cope if I'm another one who suffers more severely this time.

Thanks to everyone struggling with it. It really is the worst.

Gettingonabitnow · 20/05/2019 20:01

Soov567 Really glad it has helped you. Yeah please keep us posted.

I've booked a gp appointment to get some anti sickness meds today I can't even keep lucozade down or take my kids school today, bless them they've been really good though helping me. Hope everyone's sickness eases off soon.

Gettingonabitnow · 21/05/2019 11:17

Oh god that sounds awful. Sounds like some meds are definitely needed. I’ve managed half a can of fizzy drink this morning.

Hope you’re appointment goes well Anita 🤞 sorry to hear you’re having a rough time

CielBleuEtNuages · 21/05/2019 14:50

My sympathies with everyone who is suffering.

DS1 - I was sick every day until I gave birth. I just went to work and stayed in bed the rest of the time.

DS2 - I was sick every day until I gave birth. But also was working FT and had a toddler to look after, and get up to at night (8 times a night at that stage) so suffered so much more. I took medicine which helped reduce being sick to "just" once a day and I co-slept to avoid getting up at night.
My parents were a godsend.

Unsurprisingly I don't want a 3rd pregnancy.

Gettingonabitnow · 22/05/2019 11:57

Hi ladies

How are those who are suffering?

I feel a smidge better today - just managed a sandwich and couple of crisps.

That’s good to hear gettingon, maybe it’ll get a bit easier from here. I’ve noticed I have a window of not feeling sick at around midday so am just trying to eat then.
Cyclizine turned out not to be great, so I’m trying metoclopramide (nausea turned into vomiting for the last 24 hours), will let everyone know if this is the one that works

VerbenaGirl · 22/05/2019 12:23

Mine was worse, although I think having a little one to look after and not being able to indulge yourself during pregnancy - like you can with the first one - doesn’t help.

Gettingonabitnow · 22/05/2019 13:18

Soov567 Ah what was wrong with the cyclizine? Hopefully the next one will work for you.

Same re lunchtime relief period. How many weeks are you again?

OP posts:
Soov567 · 22/05/2019 20:11

I’m 7 weeks now so still ages of this to go, can’t wait until the end of first trimester!
Cyclizine just wasn’t working (think I was so desperate for it to work that I made myself think it was IYKWIM)
New one is an antiemetic, only taken 1 dose but it’s been amazing, I have even been hungry for food this evening! Definitely the right one for me. Are you still thinking of going to the GP gettingon?

Gettingonabitnow · 22/05/2019 21:04

Possibly. I’m 8 weeks and I said to myself I’d try and wait until 12 weeks before going to Gp.

It is starting to get me down though. All I do is moan about how sick and cold I feel! Had a potato waffle and mouthful of chicken tonight, sacked the veg right off.

pinkstar01 · 22/05/2019 21:04

I think this is me too bt my DH is saying I was the same with my first DC too and I've just forgotten?
I'm 6 weeks tomorrow and been having constant nausea since 5ish weeks! I feel duped because everyone told me it wouldn't be as bad second time around 😩

Gettingonabitnow · 25/05/2019 18:40

I’m real bad today ladies. How is everyone doing?

OP posts:
NauseousMum · 25/05/2019 21:06

Bit better in some respects with not vomiting so much since taking ranitidine. Much more queasy though. Have you seen the doctor?

Rubberyduck · 26/05/2019 08:38

Morning ladies. Do you mind if I join in? I am 6+4 with DC2 and feeling constantly nauseous. The smell of most things sets me off. I havent actually been sick yet amazingly but am struggling with eating and drinking. So far I can only stomach salty things which doesnt bode well, I am already putting on weight. Drinks I cant seem to find anything that I can have in gusto. I am stupidly finding it so upsetting as I know I am not drinking enough but even the thought of it makes my stomach flip. I can pour a glass of something and I cant even look at it let alone drink it.

Anyone else feeling unbelievably tired? I have zero strength atm and am feeling like a terrible mum to my 19mo as I just cant get involved and play like before. I have this whole week off with him and am genuinely worried about that. Somehow sitting at my desk seems easier right now. Probably another reason I am seeing my weight go uo

Gettingonabitnow · 26/05/2019 09:40

Welcome rubbery duck!! I could literally have written your post. Do you have any help with your toddler? I’m really neglecting mine in terms of attention. Drinks, I can stomach fizzy ones but that’s it.

NauseousMum Glad you’re feeling a bit better. No I might go next week.

Thanks @gettingonabitnow. I dont have help other than my DH when hes not at work as hes the only one that knows. I havent told anyone at work but I can kind of hide behind my desk and I only work 3 days. If it gets any worse I will struggle though. DH has been great letting me rest but of course he cant do everything and DS clearly knows something is off.

Good luck if you speak to your doc. I have my booking in meeting with the midwife in 2 weeks so I may bring it up then but tbh I got very little sympathy the first time. I guess we brought this on ourselves and should have known we would be more tired with a toddler in tow!
