Hi all, just looking for some advice.

I'm nearly 9 weeks pregnant and think I should start looking at options for antenatal classes. NCT would be the obvious choice but I'm a bit worried about the 'judgy' reputation. I'm seriously considering an ELCS and while I do want to hear a balanced view of the pros and cons I'm worried that if I tell them that this is my decision they'll react badly. I'm also of the opinion that while I really want to breastfeed and will give it a good shot 'fed is best' and I don't intend to die in a ditch if I'm not able to. Would NCT be totally unsuitable for me? If so, can anyone recommend other antenatal classes that might be a better fit?

Thank you

I did NCT in stoke newington and the teacher was lovely and talked us through ELCS as well. There was someone in the class having one. I think it does vary according to the teacher.

I did NCT in Wanstead and didn't find it judgey but it was a bit more focused on a natural birth and there was also a full day on breastfeeding. In the end I had an EMCS but to be fair there was a part of the course on C-sections which I found useful.

The main reason I went was to make friends though. Still very much in touch with all of them now baby is 6m. The support has been invaluable.

Thanks both. I'd probably do the Wanstead one as it's close. Useful to hear experiences.

Another who did NCT in Wanstead. Didn't find the classes judgy. We aren't all still in touch, but I still see three or four of them regularly and our children are now over 3.
There were 3 CS's (out of 8) and they were all scheduled so everyone spoke about that.
In the end there were only three in the group who breastfed for various reasons as well.
The support in the first few months was invaluable and enabled me to have a social life while I was on maternity leave.
