New job and just found out I'm pregnant!

Hi,

So I left a job I was in as I was really unhappy, found a job with the perfect hours that fit around my DS, have been there for 4 weeks and have just found out today I am 2-3 weeks pregnant.

I'm so worried about telling my new boss and how everyone I work with will react! I have 2 months left on probation so I'm wondering whether to tell them the truth now so I don't look like I'm being sneaky? Or wait until my probation is over to tell them? Providing I pass that is.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did it work out for you? I'm making myself so worried over it. I can't afford to lose my job.

Legally they should not end your probation due to a pregnancy. That is totally unfair. I got pregnant the day before I was offered a job and didn't start the job til I was 27 weeks pregnant. They were absolutely fine with me. The work I've done after my mat leave has justified me getting the job. If they're looking for a good employee long term then this doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I'm pretty sure legally you dont have to tell employers till your 25 weeks unless you need a change in duties heavy lifting ect? I'd double check just to be sure

How are you measuring how far gone you are?

You’ll be entitled to SMP provided you were not pregnant before you started based on the due date given on your MATB1 (20 week appt). Many many midwives will move the due date where it’s borderline.

Legally they can’t dismiss you for pregnancy, but with less than 2 years service they can fire you for any other non-discriminatory reason.
