Breastfeeding toddler while pregnant- do I need extra folic acid?

Hi everyone,
I can’t seem to find a good answer for this anywhere and my first midwife appointment isn’t for a few more weeks. I know standard prenatal vitamins contain 400mg of folic acid but should I go up to 800 if I’m breastfeeding at the same time? I’m worried my toddler is taking all of the folic acid away from the baby!

Thank you ...

I don't think it works like that but certainly it won't do any harm to take 800. In fact 800 is the recommended amount in a lot of other countries. You can buy just folic acid 400mcg alone from Boots to top up if you're taking a multivitamin.

It's micrograms (μg) rather than milligrams BTW :)

You should be eating folate rich food too. Folic acid is just the top up.
