Hi

So at my 20 weeks scan I was told my baby had bright kidneys, so I've been sent for extra scans and tests etc, I had a harmon blood test which checked for Pateus, Edwards and Down's syndrome, all came back clear that baby didn't have any of those things, went back for regular scans and all ok but just been for my 32 week scan and kidneys are still bright but now there saying baby's long bones are slowing down in growing and are 2 almost 3 weeks behind head and tummy, she couldn't see the face very clear but she said suspected recess chin but the way baby was laying couldn't get a good enough view to say for sure, now consultant wants me to have amniocentesis in a couple days and says there's no risk of Miscarriage now and just premature
Labour, I'm going to have this done because they said it will help them no what to treat for when he gets here, she did say there's still he could be perfectly healthy so
I really don't no what to think, has anyone else had any experiences like this? Thankyou

Hi @newmommababy, what a worrying and confusing experience you are going through. Have they given any indications of what could be causing the suspected growth problems? I had an amniocentesis at 21 weeks, and would just reassure you that although it feels weird and uncomfortable it wasn't particularly painful. There will be a doctor and midwife present during it and they will talk you through it one step at a time. Dont be afraid to ask questions or make any requests you need in order to feel comfortable with what is happening. Be sure to rest afterwards and don't try to walk too far, I felt quite weak and a little shaky afterwards.

Thankyou for your reply,
They haven't really told us, they brushed over dwarfism but she didn't seem
To think it was that as there still growing but just slower and behind everything else,
It's just one worry after another, do
You no what else the needle tests for?
Hope you had a good outcome
I'm so nervous of the needle but reassuring to hear from someone who's had it done, ive got to stay in hospital over night and have steroid injections as they said it could send me in to labour x

Hey. At my 20 week scan I was 19+4. They found bright bowel. Echogenic. No cause whatsoever. Follow up scan 2 weeks later. His bowel was dilated and fluid near his lung. Said he had hydrops. Was going to die in my womb or when born. Had all the tests minus amnio and all came back fine... his growth was perfect ect I had this postive feeling. Last week had another scan she said it was almost like scanning a whole new baby. Fluid has completely disappeared. Bowel still echogenic but nothing the surgeons haven't seen before. So tbh they threw everything at me and I just think whatever is the case deal with it when he has arrived. Enjoy ur pregnancy and try not to get downGrin

Thankyou for your reply, wow you must of been terrified after hearing all that! Then what a relief after :)

There's been so many ups and downs in my pregnancy, good news at one scan then bad at the next! Then as things look up they go down again, been private as well for 2nd opinion and they don't seem that concerned that anything's majorly wrong, so I'm having the amino Monday for more results then I'm just going to try to put it out my head the next couple weeks and try to enjoy some of this pregnancy cause he will soon be here and born, can't wait!

@newmommababy
Yeah I completely understand. Same situation. They have to throw worst case scenario to cover their backs but I really had this postive feeling and I was right. Now I just have to keep postive for the remaining weeks. Don't feel pressured into anything. I was too worried to have the amniocentesis but I had the NIPT. It wouldn't have changed my mind with the pregnancy anyway. Hope all goes well. And just enjoy! X

Hope you get some answers and can enjoy the rest of the pregnancy

Sorry for the delayed reply. In my case they did the amniocentesis to check for genetic conditions which could have been the cause of my son's developmental abnormalities. I suspect this is what they will be doing for you too, but the consultant will explain all that when they do the amnio.

newmommababy · 17/05/2019 23:17

Thanks for the replies, yeah they said they will be doing it to find out genetic abnormalities but I have no idea what that could be it could mean for our baby, have you had your results and what was it please if you don't mind sharing , thankyou all x

Yes we had our results, our son had a chromosomal disorder called 22Q11.1 deletion (DiGeorge's syndrome). I hope you get some answers quickly x

newmommababy · 20/05/2019 19:14

Thankyou, went for ours today, couldn't have the Amnio cause way baby was lying she couldn't find a safe gap, so I had the cvs needle in to the placenter biopsy, now to wait 12-14 days :/

Thankyou for your reply, hope your all doing ok x
