Sinusitis, cold sores and recurring cold ... is baby safe?

Hi. I'm 24 weeks pregnant and the first trimester seemed to be pretty illness-free. But for about a month now I've been having recurring problems, such as cold sores, colds and now a cold with a bad sinusitis. I've felt a bit feverish too so I was worried that it might be a flu, but today I don't feel that anymore (no temperature, just runny nose and painful cold sore). I am so frustrated and worried. I take vitamin supplements and my diet is super healthy, I don't understand why my immunity is so rubbish. Have you experienced similar problems? What can I do? Is the baby at risk when I'm ill like this? Any advice appreciated xx

Your immune system is lowered during pregnancy. I got more frequent colds that lasted longer while pregnant last time and after years of being with my husband I caught his athlete's foot too. 😑

Your baby should be fine though but seek medical attention for a high fever or food poisoning even if you normally wouldn't.

Baby will be fine, when you're pregnant your immune system is lower than usual so we're more prone to pick up every bug that is going. It may be worth mentioning to your midwife though as things like iron deficiency can lower your immune system even more

Thanks. I'm also a bit worried about my weight. Since the start of the pregnancy I've only put on about 5 kg. At the start of the pregnancy my BMI was borderline underweight (18.5) and I'm 24 weeks now so well past half way. Should I not weigh more? I was 2 kg heavier at the weekend but this illness has really run me down. Oh gosh, I'm going to have to force myself to eat...

Your immune system is lowered. I had recurrent cold sores during my pregnancy and I mentioned it to the midwife and she explained it to me. Try not to worry Flowers

Thanks! I've lost my voice now but I'm starting to cough it out so hopefully that's the last stage of this horrible cold and it will soon be over. xx
