How long do blood results take and why do I need 2?

I have had a merena coil for 4 years now with no issues but went to a reflexologist and she said that I was showing signs of pregnancy. I had 2 positive and 1 negative pregnancy tests. 2 where carried out at a clinic 1 definitely positive and one almost positive. I am now having a blood test and was wondering how long it takes to come back. I am having 2 blood tests a week apart and the nurse assistant who took my blood was unsure when I would get the results.

I don’t know how long it takes, but the reason you have 2 tests is because the hcg levels should be doubling every couple of days if the pregnancy is viable.

In a ‘normal’ early pregnancy beta hCG usually doubles every 48 hours so, when doing blood tests they usually schedule them 2 days apart to confirm rise (or not) in levels and by how much - lower than expected rises can be indicative of ectopic pregnancy and, falling levels can be indicative of miscarriage or chemical pregnancy. Not sure why they would leave a week between tests though. As for results, when I had mine done at GP’s the results of the first test were back around the same time as they did the second test and the following day for the second test (the difference being first test was done late afternoon and second done in the morning)
