Can babies feel your hot bath?

I just went in a relatively nice hot bath, it wasn’t too hot didn’t scald me and it wasn’t hot enough to make me sweat (I don’t like those kind of baths). However my belly tensed up almost like she was uncomfortable with me being in the hot bath. I got out and laid down and after a couple of minutes it’s gone back to normal. Is this a normal thing to happen?

I don't think very hot baths are recommended during pregnancy. I know when my water was more than "quite warm" in my last pregnancy that baby seemed unhappy and I felt kind of blah instead of relaxed.

Neverbroken · 14/05/2019 22:29

That’s how I felt I’m only 17 weeks but felt like she’s protesting against it. I was only in there a few minutes.

I have had hot baths through all my pregnancies! Never had any issues. Currently expecting dc5

Were you having BH maybe op?

DustyMaiden · 14/05/2019 22:31

If your bath water is too hot, you could also feel faint or sick, as the heat can lower your blood pressure a bit too much. This can affect blood flow to your baby, which is unsafe at any stage of your pregnancy.

DoraNora · 14/05/2019 22:33

My doctor told me the thing about hot baths is not that the bath is hot, it's if it was really hot there is a danger of your blood pressure dropping suddenly and that is dangerous for the baby. But most people aren't having baths that hot ...

Plus unlike a sauna or jacuzzi the bath only gets colder from when you get in it.

@DustyMaiden cross-post!

I fainted getting out of a bath during pregnancy and cracked my head against the bathroom vanity. Had to go to hospital. Please be careful with baths, OP. Your blood pressure is different in pregnancy.

costacoffeecup · 14/05/2019 22:36

No, it's fine. Recent research showed no effect at all.

costacoffeecup · 14/05/2019 22:37

Agree with watching the blood pressure though, I fainted after baths a few times because they were too hot (not not when pregnant.)

Neverbroken · 14/05/2019 22:42

There was no pain though so I don’t think it was BH literally just tightening of the womb for a tiny while. Then again I wouldn’t know what Braxton Hicks feels like as this is my only pregnancy to go this far. I didn’t feel faint or sick. Can you get braxton hicks so early? Also can you feel kicks so early? I feel like I can they feel like little taps from inside.

I’m 11 weeks but have noticed my muscles tighten under a hot shower. I don’t think this has anything to do with the baby — it’s probably just our bodies reacting to dissipate the heat. Our bodies become a lot more efficient at dispersing heat in pregnancy.

rosydreams · 14/05/2019 23:39

mine seems to go quiet when in the shower and perks up when i put on headphones so peculiar

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 15/05/2019 00:01

All three of mine went nuts if my bath was too hot. At every and any stage of pregnancy. If I made the bath cooler ( I do like very hot baths) they stopped

Weird

They must not like the heat. She’s been very active today I don’t know if it was the cold orange juice or not but she’s been having fun this morning.

lol they actually say OJ a good way to check if your concerned about movement. They seem to liven up a bit after a glass apparently ,mine seems to liven up if i sleep on a side they are not partial to that day which is odd

Neverbroken · 15/05/2019 13:50

I didn’t know just fancied some this morning and she was going nuts lol don’t normally feel her until the afternoon. I thought it was because it’s so cold but I’ve drank the whole cartoon and she’s been having a whale of a time in there! Must be the sugar in it.

Hot baths are not recommended in pregnancy. Give it a google.

Also, I wouldn't do a whole carton of orange juice in one go. It'll send your blood sugar sky high. Do it too often and you may wind up with gestational diabetes.

Neverbroken · 15/05/2019 15:02

Ive done it this once I’m normally drinking water
