Sickness and food aversions

Is anyone able to offer some advice. I used to be a big food lover, like massively. But I've now totally lost any appetite due to sickness and nausea. I can stomach fruit and veg mostly, and I'm having a lot of ice pops and water, but I'm struggling to get a mixed diet and I dont want to harm baby. Pharmacist said they cant give me anything for sickness and to just have ginger, which I am.

For me salted plain food helps. Mash potato with plain stock based gravy for eg.

My health adviser told me in the first trimester just be kind to yourself and eat what you can and worry about your diet later on when feeling better. I have had bad morning sickness and potatoes chips and ketchup were my saviour and still are when feeling bad. Just do.what you can.

My gp prescribed me anti sickness meds as I wasn't eating properly. Said was completely safe during pregnancy. I suggest go there and ask. Also told if I'm taking and keeping the pregnancy vitamins then baby probably getting enough.

I’ve got CONSTANT nasusea and I’ve been told by a consultant that I should just eat what I can and try not to worry. He even recommended full fat coke to get some energy! I’ve also been given anti sickness medication. Don’t be fobbed off by people telling you there’s nothing that can be done. Unfortunately some people just believe that it’s something that has to be suffered.

I lived on ready salted crisps and Starburst when I was pregnant with dd. Literally all I ate for about 6 weeks. It got a lot better in the 2nd trimester and I went back to pretty much normal eating.

She’s a happy, healthy 2 year old now so it hasn’t caused her any harm.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

I Agree get anti sickness meds. You will feel better. I’m a huge fan. You need the GP

Agree with the above - if you're really struggling, go to the GP and ask for medication.
Don't worry yourself too much about a balanced diet at the moment, baby will take what it needs from you and hopefully you'll be eating normally again in the second trimester.

Cold food seems to work best when your feeling like this, pretty much been living on salads and sandwiches, all you can do is try and eat whatever you can stomach and just take your vitamins x
