Reassure me about placenta previa

Argh. Just when I was starting to relax. I have just had a 22wk scan and find that whilst the baby is perfectly fine and measuring well and everything in the garden is lovely - I have complete placenta previa. The sonographer said it might move but Dr Google has just scared the pants off me with tales of heavy bleeding, premature birth, maternal mortality rates etc etc (and it says you're not supposed to have sex, either).
Anyone else had this/got this/know anything else? Should I phone the midwife and worry at her?

I agree -- google is really scary on this. I still have partial praevia at 29 weeks and spent too much time early on worrying myself sick. Best to breathe deeply and try to enjoy the pregnancy, knowing that the most important thing is to have the diagnosis as then you should get the care you need.

Personally, I've had no problems and my obstetrician hasn't issued any dire warnings about sex or heavy lifting. Just get yourself to hospital at any sign of bleeding (and don't let anyone do an internal exam.). In the meantime {{{{hugs}}}} -- all the people posting about this on mn have come out of it OK.

Thank you! That alone makes me feel better. Dr Google's surgery had best close for a bit, I think.

Just wanted to say that I had this with both ds1 and ds2 and it did move out of the way both times for me to have a natural birth. If it quite serious, they will keep monitoring its position, especially as you get closer to your due date.

On the plus side, it should mean more scans and chances to get a look at your baby!
