Does anyone take sertraline?

My dp is concerned about the effect on the baby of this. My Gp says sertraline is ok when you're pregnant.

I don't think I should stop taking it because it really helps me cope day to day without being anxious.

I was on it when I got pregnant, currently weaning myself off but only cos I can't be on two meds and breastfeed. If it makes your DP feel better, prior to trying to conceive I saw a peri-natal psychiatrist who told me sertraline isn't harmful to the baby and in fact is a medication that is recommended in the place of others. Hope that helps!

Took it throughout my twin pregnancy, I was told it was safe by a doctor and my midwife. I understand your husbands concerns but please listen to your GP or seek a second opinion.

My doctor said it was also mentally safer for me to be on them than to not be taking any antidepressants at that time.

I found out I'm pregnant a couple of weeks ago and have continued to take mine. If I get to 12 weeks I might reduce the dose (with advice from my GP) but I've had so many losses the early stages are a really anxious time - so not a good time to try and come off them for me. I was told the same as above, it's the safest one to take.

I take it, was on 100mg until I found out I was pregnant, have stayed on a 50mg dose as we take it for a reason. I spoke to several midwives about continuing to take it and I was reassured constantly, every time I see my midwife (I'm 30 weeks) we discuss it and I know how important it is for me to stay on it.

I was on Citalopram when I got pregnant and came off it. This was frankly stupid and I had an awful time emotionally. I had frequent panic attacks and considered self harm. At 20 weeks went onto Sertraline and it was the best thing I did. Now 34 weeks on 100mg.

Aside from the fact that your mental health matters so much, there is some interesting research which shows that a growing foetus can be affected by maternal depression (think of all the stress hormones etc).

Don't feel guilty for a moment.
