Am I eating enough?!

Hi guys!

I'm 14 weeks pg, and over the worst of my morning sickness. I'm still struggling to eat massive meals, but can stomach thinks like cereal, fruit, crisps, small sandwiches.

A typical day at the mo for me is a bowl of cereal, about 6 pieces of fruit, something small for tea like soup, and snacking in between on like crisps etc.

My partner and his mother seem to think this isn't enough and baby will become poorly, and if it does - in their words - they will blame me! However, they don't seem to understand the sometimes severity of my sickness and stomach ache and I eat what I can!

I crave a lot of fruit lately which is what I've pretty much been living on, and they said too much fruit is bad for me and I shouldn't eat so much blah blah. It's starting to do my head in!

Any advice would be much appreciated ladies!

Thank you 😘

Is the baby growing? You’re not eating for two you are eating for one. Be as balanced as you can but really sounds plenty to me.

Baby will get enough nutrients from you at this point and hopefully you are nearly past the sickness phase.
If you can't eat you can't eat and unfortunately there's not a huge amount you can do. I barely ate anything as I couldn't stomach it so you're doing really well considering, it's not very fair of them to 'blame you' if you eat and it makes you sick then that doesn't help either

Congratulations on your pregnancy and try not to let other people's comments upset you x

Does the soup have chicken or lentils or another source of protein in it? I would switch some of the fruit for a handful of nuts.

Don't listen op! Eat what you can stomach!
Honestly I more or less lived off dry toast as its all I could manage until I was well into second trimester.
So fruit, sandwiches, few snacks is probably OK, but you could always ask your midwife.
Also just to add, I did find that although the thought of eating other foods made me feel queazy, actually having a bite or two wasn't nearly as bad as I thought, I know it might not be the same for you, but just thought I'd mention.
I think saying they will blame you if baby becomes poorly is just cruel... Ignore them!

I think your partner and his mother first of all need to wind their necks in, comments like that are beyond unhelpful.

It sounds like you're eating what is manageable and balanced. All you can do is eat as healthy as you can and try your best to get a good balance of vitamins and minerals. If you are worried keep a food diary and discuss it with your midwife at your next appointment.

I am 20 weeks pregnant (second pregnancy) and in both pregnancies have had phases of being constantly hungry and phases of not being too hungry. You do not need to increase calories until 3rd trimester and even then it's not a massive increase. Your body seems to crave what you need.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy Smile

I had a thing for satsumas and strawberries, apart from that with the nausea was on milk and crackers. I was fine baby was fine. Try to get calcium down you and protein as others have said. Good luck.

Babies, in the nicest possible way, are parasites: its unlikely to be the baby that suffers if you’re not eating enough, more likely YOU might be a bit unwell. So don’t worry too much about the baby. But you’re feeling sick, so you’re eating what you can, right? Could you stomach a few cubes of mild cheese with the fruit, perhaps? Hopefully the nausea will pass and you’ll be able to eat a bit more. I fixated on a salt and vinegar crisps and pineapple for week. Good luck!x

For the first 10 weeks or so I physically couldn't stomach much at all and ended up in hospital with dehydration. But now my sickness has eased off I'm eating what I can manage! Had a scan this week and no mention of baby being underweight, and I have quite a big bump already!

I hate the fact that they're both not even in the slightest bit understanding at all, I have days where all I do is eat, and then days where I just want to pick and nibble!

But thank you to everyone, you've all made me feel so much better about how much I'm eating!

I lived off dry cereal and oranges with my first and burgers and crisps with my second. I had hg so was very sick. Both babies were perfectly healthy
