20 week scan abnormality

Hi everyone, I really need some help and reassurance I don't know what to do. I had my 20 week scan today and they said it has a "genital abnormality" He said this could be absolutely nothing or maybe a bit of cord floating around but has seen a shadow around the genitals. He couldn't get hold of anyone so has made an appointment for a second opinion on Monday. I just don't know what to do, I'm so worried. Has anybody else experienced this? What could it be? Thankyou

Haven’t got any advice or heard of this before but didn’t want to read and run. I feel for you, I know I would be worried as well, but... you don’t know what it is or how serious it is at this stage so try to stay positive until you can get a 2nd opinion. It’s probably a good sign that the sonographer didn’t know immediately what it is - I guess that makes it more likely to be something minor or even turn out to be fine, than a known, common anomaly.

Does anything run in your family?If not then id say it should be ok. That isnt good that they couldnt tell u much just leave u worryin like that .try not to worry i know its hard.x

Hi, it's a boy. Thankyou for your replies. I really just don't know what to think. I understand they're busy but to just leave me and my partner like that until Monday. I really hope it's nothing or at least something minor x

Don't panic, it's probably nothing. Try and put it out of your mind over the weekend.

It is bad doing that to u both, they do forget that its a worrying time for parents. If the person doing the scan diddnt know then it does seem that it wont be anything,i think if it was they would get someone asap.
Hope monday goes well, keep busy at the weekend & monday will come around fast.x

We had a cord abnormality picked up at scan, like you we had to wait over weekend which was horrible. But then our follow up consultant scan all was deemed well and my son is now a healthy 22 month old. Fingers crossed for you.

How did the following scan go?

Sorry for the delay everyone, there is a small cyst on the umbilical cord but as this will drop off with the cord and baby is completely healthy otherwise, they aren't concerned at all. We are so relieved!!! We have to have a follow up scan in 5 weeks just to make sure everything is still okay. Thankyou all for your support!
