Part of the HV visit is to check the setting for the baby if they deemed necessary so I know they would want at least one visit there IME. I know one young mum whose HV asked to see where the baby was sleeping (she didn't ask me though), so I assume they only do that if they feel the need.

Plus of course, it's extra support for the mother. Usually there's no cause for concern and you may not see one again for a while.

My aunt was a HV and would give more support to those who needed it...very young mums/mums with no support/mums in a volitile situation/those who didn't know basics like nappy changing/feeding/clothing newborns... you'd be amazed. Basically vulnerable mums. I can understand why some may feel it's a repeat of the info from the midwife though.

Not sure where you live, but it seems each area handles it in a different way anyway. We have to request a visit before the baby is born. I consider it a positive thing and just extra support if needed.

I suffer from insomnia too and, honestly, sleep deprivation from a newborn is another level :) Plus your hormones are all over the place.

I had one at 32 weeks, she just introduced herself, general chit chat and asked questions about family, marriage, was baby planned etc, noted that I had 2 nutty spaniels (didn’t seem judgemental about anything) and gave me info on breastfeeding, local groups etc. Said she’d be back 2 weeks after baby was born after midwife had discharged us x

No antenatal visits when I had mine. It wasn’t on offer. There was a postnatal visit after my first baby but I’m sure there was nothing for my subsequent two children.

It's an opt-in service. If you don't want them to come over then you don't have to have them.
