Waterproof mattress protectors?

I'm trying to find out what's safe/not safe. I've heard of people laying sheets, so if baby has a poo explosion in the night, peel off a layer of sheet and waterproof sheet. Already have another underneath. Is this safe? Are waterproof mattress protectors safe?

When do you stop worrying about SIDs?

Where's the best place to get this information from?

Have never heard of waterproof mattress protectors not being safe. I think the layering thing is with massive incontinence pads (or like those ones you get for puppy training). As long as the sleep surface isn’t a loose sheet that could suffocate (ie it’s tucked in) I think anything under it is fine.

Ps I stopped worrying when DS chose to sleep face down with his bum in the air and wouldn’t be dissuaded

Lullaby trust has a huge amount of information

Lullaby trust is the go to for info regarding safe sleep in UK. I don't think there is anything unsafe about layering as long as everything is well tucked in and flat.

I'm a ftm to be also finding my way.
The Lullaby Trust is good website for safe sleeping and SIDs. They advise a firm mattress and waterproof cover.

I have bought some waterproof matress protectors from asda.
Planning on having: snuzpod mattress, waterproof mattress, blanket, sheet, baby....

Thanks ladies. It's a bit of a minefield. I wasn't sure about layering because I thought the mattress was meant to be breathable? I know baby won't be in the cot for 6 months. So I'm thinking very far ahead here. But I just want to get it right. I will look at The Lullaby Trust

Yes I'm not sure about layering either re: safety. I just thought a blanket on top of the waterproof protector would be more comfortable than the plasticky protector for baby!

The best thing to do is have a spare waterproof sheet and spare regular sheets and just change them when you need to!

I was a bit worried about this too so I've bought the Little Green Sheep mattress protectors as they claim to be waterproof but they are made from cotton...will see how well they cope!
I've layered mattress, protector, sheet, muslin but I'm not optimistic

At 8 months my LO has never had any dirty or wet nights! I consider myself lucky, I too used all the protectors and waterproof layers, ended up donating it all just this week as was all in pristine condition.
I’ve always made sure baby has properly fitting nappies and that seems to help, I tend to veer on the side of caution and go a size up then strap him in fully! So far so good
