Anyone worried their private gender scan is wrong?

We had a private gender scan at 16 weeks and the sonographer told us Baby is a girl. My only worry is I know 3 people who then went to their 20 week scan (none at the same scan place as me) to be told the gender they were originally told was wrong.

Reassurance please?! (Picture Attached)

But what difference would it make? You’ll have this scan’s identification of the sex confirmed or not in a couple of weeks, surely?

mumofone25 · 05/05/2019 22:22

It does happen as they can’t guarantee a 100 percent accuracy but from your picture baby definitely looks like a girl. Can see the 3 lines. Congratulations ☺️

My SIL was told twice her baby was a girl. At the third scan they informed her he was most definitely a boy (he was).

Boys are brilliant by the way, chill out.

Had the same worry, as I know several people they have got it wrong and someone I know they got it wrong on a private scan and the 20 weeks it's only when she had a scan further along the line due to issues they confirmed it was actually a boy not a girl! However I'd go with your gut feeling if you feel your having a girl take it as it is that's what I'm doing haha had 2 scans both confirmed a girl now and I have a 3D one end of month so hoping the 3rd confirmation may convince me it's deffo a girl :)

TTCVickster · 05/05/2019 22:25

I genuinely have no preference either way, we only found out early because my partner works away and can’t make the 20 week scan. If at 20 weeks they say it’s a boy that’s fine, we have no names picked, haven’t bought anything other than white.

I was just interested to see who has been told the correct gender and how often people are told incorrectly!

That’s a girl you can see the three lines, no mistaking it. That and the lack of a penis!

mummyofdaughters · 05/05/2019 22:32

Definitely a girl, congratulations!

spugzbunny · 05/05/2019 22:52

I was worried as well ... I totally understand. Pregnancy is stressful and you fixated on the small things. It's natural.

That's a girl though - very clear shot. I could see that before I even read what you had written.

ohdearymemumof3 · 06/05/2019 10:42

Definitely a girl. This is my private scan at 16 weeks with my son.

Here my little boy at 15+5 he's definitely got a little willy there! I didn't worry, I've bought misty neutral so if we do find out that they got it wrong then it's fine, but he's definitely a boy haha

I’ve been worried about this too, we got told we were having a girl & if they tell me at 20 weeks it’s a boy I won’t mind at all but I have already been buying pink clothes so keeping the receipts just incase haha.

mynameiscalypso · 06/05/2019 12:22

I think that's a pretty clear shot of a girl. I had a private scan at 16 weeks and there was absolutely no mistaking that it was a boy.

Tobebythesea · 06/05/2019 16:39

It looks like a girl. There are no ‘outside’ bits!

littlelegs888 · 08/05/2019 09:00

I had a private scan at 17weeks they originally said 100% girl and then changed their mind to a boy, Im completely in limbo until 20 weeks now. I made a complaint and got rescanned 2 days later and the woman brought up the photos from the originally scan, some scans you see 3 lines and then the other it clearly looks like a willy. They left it at 80-85% boy. But to keep open minded.
Genuinely wish I never went for a private scan.

SallyWD · 08/05/2019 09:06

There's nothing to worry about. You'll either have a girl or a boy and both are great!

TessaL23 · 08/05/2019 09:21

My first scan said boy, second scan said girl. Third scan confirmed girl. I painted the bedroom a teal green just to be safe lol. But your scan def looks like a girl to me!!

Springwalk · 08/05/2019 09:29

I had a gender scan and was told it was a boy twice and by two different midwives, bought all the boy things, we named him and then I fell over at 32 weeks and had a scan and was told it was a girl!!! It was SUCH a shock, in every way, I felt I had bonded with him and then he wasn't there anymore. It was a girl! I didn't know what to expect on the day I went into labour and it was quite unsettling.

I would keep an open mind op.

Springwalk · 08/05/2019 09:30

By the way loved having a girl!!! So it was perfect in the end, but finding out that way was very weird.

Nicecupofcoco · 08/05/2019 09:36

This happened to two people I know, both were told a girl and a later scan showed a boy!
So I guess it does happen, but I think your scan clearly shows a girl! But only a few weeks until you have it confirmed, so maybe wait until then to tell people if that concerns you!
Congratulations by the way!

codenameduchess · 08/05/2019 09:51

I know of only 1 person this happened too, and to be honest she's quite big and her scans are really hard to see (I'm talking bmi of around 60 though) so it's not impossible a sonographer couldn't see properly.

Everyone else has been correct though, hoping to find out what I'm baking soon!

Torsz · 08/05/2019 09:55

I've been wondering the same for the past few months as we had a scan at 17 weeks and another at 21 weeks where they said girl, but we didn't have any more scans planned and I wasn't convinced they would have got it right!
I know it doesn't matter in terms of either a boy or a girl would be amazing but if you choose to find out then it would be a shock to have it change at a later stage after you've been bonding with your little girl/boy.
We then had to have an emergency scan last week at c36 weeks and they still said girl which has put my mind at ease ☺️

Springwalk · 09/05/2019 09:53

My midwife said that the little girls' bits are sometimes so swollen that they look like testicles, and the penis is often tucked away and more often than not, can not be seen. That is the explanation they gave me!

I don't think it has anything, at all, to do with the size of the mother. They are looking at the child's sex in the womb, so the mother's BMI is irrelevant Confused

codenameduchess · 09/05/2019 10:00

@Springwalk if the scan images are so blurry the view of the foetus is obstructed then I'd say the mothers bmi is relevant. For most it wouldn't matter but in extreme cases (and my example is an extreme case) then yes, her bmi affected the quality of the images. She was told at the time they couldn't quite see everything and it was due to her weight. Incidentally that's the only instance of sex being incorrect at scan that I've come across.

Obviously it's possible to mistake one for the other with swelling and positioning, in my 3D scan with baby 1 she curled up, covered her face and crossed her legs so baby cooperation is definitely a factor 😂

Kitty24 · 25/05/2020 01:45

Sorry, I know this is old thread now but had a private scan & sonographer said "definitely a girl" but I cannot see this in the scan photos... stressed out! Have 20 week scan in just over 2 weeks

Kitty24 · 25/05/2020 01:46

Sorry but don't know how to post the scan photo?
