First scan after confirmed ivf pregnancy

My wife's pregnancy was confirmed by blood test on the 24th April (she also took a home pregnancy test, positive too). She has her first scan on 15th May. Can anyone tell me if it's this scan that confirms pregnancy? Sorry if i sound hopeless but I'm a very anxious dad to be.

I don’t know specifically in IVF pregnancies, you might not see an awful lot. I take it this will be 6-8weeks?
The scan is likely to make sure implantation has progressed down to the womb (is not an ectopic) and that a pole and sac are visible. It is possible that you’ll be able to see early heartbeat (a fluttering ‘disruption’ on the screen rather than a regular heartbeat). So yes, in essence, you will be able to confirm that the hormones have not lied, and that you are in fact growing a human!! 😊 Congratulations!

It depends on your clinic and area. Some IVF clinics only want to ensure there isn’t an ectopic, will scan at 5-6 weeks (and not care if it’s too early for a heartbeat etc) and then refer you straight out to the NHS. Other IVF clinics, like mine, will wait until 7 weeks and only refer out if there is a heart beat.

I had a viability scan at 8 weeks pregnant following ivf with icsi.

It's a transvaginal scan as baby is tiny right now. So as a dad to be, you may find there's a modesty curtain for your wife over her abdomen and legs, but you can definitely see screen!

They are looking to make sure that the embryo grew normally, and in the right place. You may see a flicker which is the tiny little heartbeat. My scan confirmed my single embryo transfer split into identical twins!

There can be bad news after this scan. Not all little embryos are strong enough to make it. But. Once a heartbeat is confirmed, the chances of miscarriage are very very low.

I so remember how anxious this time was for my husband and I, so I know how you feel. Just keep looking after your wife, and the scan time will be here before you know it. And majority of pregnancy does turn out to be viable after implantation so you do have the odds in your favour!

The blood test will have confirmed the pregnancy and the scan will confirm the viability. Legally with ivf you have to have one at that stage. They will confirm whether it's a single or multiple pregnancy and it's location

My clinic scanned at 7 weeks and then discharged me at 12 weeks once my medication program had finished (or massively reducing as some I have to be weaned off)

However they have still told me to keep in touch and I know I could still ring them with any concerns (I'm sure 13 weeks)
