Severe itching

Almost 37 weeks and since yesterday morning have had horrendous itching on my hands and feet. Had a blood test yesterday to check for Cholestasis but my levels were way below what they would be if I had it. Itching is more severe today and the piriton they suggested isn't helping. Anybody had anything similar or any ideas on how to help the itching. It's driving me crazy Angry

It's a sign of preeclampsia isn't it? I'd phone the MW for advice

I'm guessing you saw your cmw or gp yesterday if you had a blood test? What did they say ?

Meant to say give the Piriton a bit more time to kick in. Calamine lotion and paracetamol should help a bit as well.

BP was fine yesterday. They didn't suggest anything other than piriton once they had ascertained it wasn't Cholestasis.

Just looked on NHS website and doesn't say anything about itching.. ignore my comment 🙈 MW told me to contact her if I got itchy hands and feet so just assumed.

Thanks, will continue with the piriton and might treat myself too a cool bath later Grin

If your midwife is happy that it's not caused by anything untoward then you could try menthol cream to take away the itch, you can get it on prescription, it was the only thing that helped my post partum itchy skin.

It's strange. 3rd baby and never had anything like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have the exact same! Hospital confirmed it isnt OC. Someone said it could be Dyshidrotic eczema, ive never had eczema in my life but this type affects the hands and feet. Mine comes up in tiny little bumps if i itch it.

Get some menthol acqueous cream. It's magic and completely safe to use in pregnancy.

Also second the suggestion of cold baths and generally keeping yourself as cool as possible.
