Bleeding at 10 weeks

Hi all,

I am 10 weeks pregnant with my first child. I had a nasty scare on Sunday and woke up bleeding. I had an emergency scan yesterday to put my mind at ease and was very relieved to see a heart beat.
Quick question - if I bleed again what do I do? I can't keep rushing back for another scan. I have been told that some people bleed throughout the pregnancy and continue to have a healthy pregnancy, however everything I read states that bleeding indicates something wrong with the baby!

Some advice please.

Hi K27, I had lots of spotting early on. I had an emergency scan at 9 weeks. TBH I had a couple of tiny spotting incidents which didn't worry me too much. But at 21 weeks I had another bright red spotting incident. I was told it was a cervical erosion.

The bleeding I experienced was generally very light. I would suggest phoning your midwife if it happens again, you'll be advised at to what to do.

If you bleed during pregnancy, then you need to be checked out. Don't worry about going back to hospital to get it sorted out.

I have had 2 serious bleeds during this pg, and both times have had it checked out - and there's been nothing wrong ...

You can have bleeding during pregnancy and this site gives good information and reassurance.

try keep calm, i bled at 6weeks 11weeks and 19weeks had early scan first time took it easy the next two and unless you having cramps or red bood (fresh/new)

I had VERY heavy bright red bleeding at wek 13 with ds2... scan showed heartbeat just as yours has done (after i was told i'd defo miscarried)...

... it continued til week 20 odd - tailing off to more like end of period. Week 20 scan showed low-lying placenta so i was told this was prolly the cause.

my midwife said it could also have been the placenta implanting deeper into uterus and hitting a vein...

never did find out what it was 4 definite... but rest of pg fine.

its a horrible thing to go through and there are no magic solutions but i just wanted you to know it doesnt automatically mean the worst.

I had two enormous bleeds with this pg - later on than you, though, at 17 and 21 weeks. Cause was placenta praevia (now reverted to 'just low-lying'), but the first one in particular, when I didn't know the cause, was particularly frightening. You do have to get any bleeding checked out, and nobody will (should) turn you away. If you have a brown bleed after a bleed (within a reasonable timescale) it is likely to be just old blood and you might be OK waiting to see if it stops, but all other bleeding really must be checked out. It doesn't always indicate something wrong the the baby as such, but the cause does need establishing.

i have had lots of bleeds with this baby. and in the end i felt like u worrying whever you should always go to hospital. last wek i had another big bleed and only told midwifwe the next week. she told me i have to go up after every bleed just to be on safe side. hope that helps.looks lke ill be up there all time ha

I had gushing bleed at 9 weeks 4 days. Everything is alright but midwife said after that, come into hospital (early preg unit) whenever I got scared.

i had some bleeding the same day i had my 10wk scan baby was fine then hours later i was bleeding hospital said iv more and likely lost the baby so i was in tears had a scan the next day and baby was fine they found some blood clots next the the sac
im now 16wks and am fine
