Hi I’m due in August but looking to get prepared ASAP. I am only 22 first time mum so out of my depth. I’m looking at different options and want to know what worked best for everyone for their newborn to sleep in? Ideally I’d just buy a cot as it’s cost effective and lasts long. Can’t really afford Moses basket then different sleep options when baby grows out but I’m unsure if putting baby into cot right away is unsafe? I know feet to end etc just want some opinions.

Do you have space to put the cot in your room? It’s recommended that baby sleeps in the same room as you for the first 6 months. If so there’s no reason they can’t go straight in the cot from a safety point of view but you may find they don’t sleep that well in it to begin with as it may be too spacious.

Baby can go straight in a cot because they have different height settings so baby would be close to the top at newborn then you lower it once baby can sit up and lower once more once baby can stand or gets to big. You can get these cushion insert things for them to sleep on/in inside the cot so they feel snuggled and secure x

Going into cot straight away is absolutely fine, do you have room in your bedroom for the cot?

If you dont want to buy a moses basket. Are you buying a pram with a carry cot? Because my son wouldn't sleep in a moses basket and i hadn't got a cot yet as my daughter slept in moses basket until she was too big she loved it so i presumed he would but no, so he slept in the carry cot from the pushchair, on the floor next to my bed🙈

A few of mine went straight into a cot they diddnt like the moses basket, this time this baby will be going straight into a cot i find moses baskets a bit of a waste of money & some babies dont settle in them.
Mum of 5+ one of the way.

I'm not bothered with a moses basket either. My twins are going straight into cot, sharing with each other feet to foot at opposite ends to begin with!

Cots are perfectly safe. Look to the lullaby trust for guidance, they have lots of information on safe sleeping. As long as baby is beside you on its own sleeping surface that's firm, flat and waterproof you are fine! A cot with well fitted mattress absolutely ticks all of the boxes

Thanks so much to everyone for the replies. I looked online but nice to get opinions from people that have done it for the reassurance. Plenty of space in my bedroom for a cot for those who asked!
