Bad diet during first 12 weeks

Hi all,

I am 7 weeks + 3 and my nausea is in full swing. I haven't been sick but feel constantly nauseous throughout the day. The only food I can stomach eating is so unhealthy! I crave McD's burgers, pretty much anything with melted cheese and salty foods. Prior to falling pregnant my diet was impeccable, loads of veg and fresh home cooked food. I feel so guilty eating badly during this time, can't help beating myself up about it. I tried to eat some broccoli with my meal the other day and couldn't make myself finish it!

Has anyone else found the same aversion to fruit and veg? Might it stop in 2nd trimester?

TIA Smile

I’m glad I’m not the only one was feeling really bad as I can’t eat healthy the only thing I manage to keep down is cucumber the rest I’m stuck at a toilet but give me any junk food and boom no sickness. I watched what I eat before I was pregnant and now if I can keep it down it’s good for me and baby that’s how I look at it as I’m just being sick on the healthy stuff. I’m 11 weeks now.

I just can't stop eating in general! I'm like a machine, I'm 9+1 and I swear my colleagues must know by the amount I'm scoffing. For me it's carbs carbs and more carbs. Particularly anything with bread. I am craving salad and fruit as well but only on the side. Inhaled a massive pizza the other day and I've ripped a voucher out of the paper for a macdonalds offer. This is my first and I always thought I wouldn't eat for two but blimey, I am ravenous all the time and if I stop I get nauseous. Hope it eases at some point or I'm going to be as big as a house! 😂

I'm in the same boat. Haven't been able to cook because makes me feel so nauseous, so a lot of pizzas, and fast food lately. I'm feeling bad for my children that I've not been able to cook them a nice homemade dinner, however they are not complaining.
All the junk food is not helping my constipation Sad

Your post could have been written by me! I’m 9+4 and can’t stop eating!! Whole pizza, bread, chips...anything carbs and cheese 🙈 I can feel that I’ve put on weight already so sure it won’t be long before I’m in that stage where people are thinking ‘have you got fat or are you pregnant!?’ !!

Throughout my pregnancy with DD1 I couldn't eat the normal healthy food I normally liked.

The salad shop where I usually got my lunch suddenly smelled like bins to me. Things like salmon and broccoli were suddenly so revolting.

I was always hungry and craved chips and crisps, and mini Melton Mowbray pies. Anything fatty and salty. I had a very normal pregnancy and straightforward birth, DD1 was 8lbs exactly though a cautionary tale that I put four stone on and have never lost two of those stones, 14 years later! But I was very skinny for me before I got pregnant. Though in spite of all the weight gain I always measured small for my dates, so perhaps I needed extra fat or something. I had no problem breastfeeding.

With DD2 I was heavier to start with but only put two stone on and was the same weight at full term, and had exactly the same gestation period of 41 weeks even though she was over a pound heavier. I measured spot on. The only thing I remember craving was crackers and cheese with Medjool dates and would often have that for my dinner. Not as parlous as crisps, chips and pies.

Just eat what your body tells you. I ate nothing but dry cake for the first three months of my first pregnancy as everything else made me vomit. My second pregnancy was lucacade and pot noodles for three months too. I have never touched those things since! You can focus on losing any baby weight afterwards, just concentrate how how you feel now.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 03/05/2019 10:33

I lived off chicken flavour Super oodles during the first trimester. And chocolate. It evened out eventually as I actually craved a lot of soup/salad/yoghurt for the rest and still do (due end of the month)

Just eat what you can for now.

I basically survived on cheese and white bread for the first trimester. We were all fine! Second trimester got better.

LHMB · 03/05/2019 11:07

I'm only about 5 or 6 weeks but I keep craving junk! Cakes, biscuits, carbs, all stuff I shouldn't have. I already feel so fat, I'm glad I don't have any scales, I dread to think what I weigh, even though I haven't actually gone mad and pigged out on junk too much and have been walking a lot, I have bdd though so I beat myself up more than usual.
Saying that, I'm so nauseous all the time and some days the thought of any food at all knocks me sick

Nobhobs · 03/05/2019 11:17

Woooops I'm 28 weeks and still eating like a pig. I'm still taking vitamins, having atleast some fruit and veg each day and drinking lots of water though. I wouldn't stress too much-- but maybe be slightly better than me and don't have two McDonald's breakfast wraps one after another.--

Nobhobs · 03/05/2019 11:19

Also my only craving was melted chocolate fudge cake. I was buying them, microwaving them and eating the whole thing in a day. Sometimes I'd even smother Nutella on them too Blush Baby wants what it wants.. (I did have to kick that habit though if I ever want to get back to the size 8 I was pre-pregnancy Grin)

CoodleMoodle · 03/05/2019 11:34

My first trimester with both DC, I survived on Ritz crackers, dry Frosties, dry Bran Flakes, and beef Pot Noodles! Anything else turned my stomach.

A few weeks later I was eating anything I could get my hands on - healthy and unhealthy! I've never been so hungry in my life. At least with DC2 I was more prepared for the constant stuffing my face Grin

You and your baby will be just fine, OP. Eat what you can, drink what you can. And good luck!

Foxmuffin · 03/05/2019 11:57

For the first 14 weeks I was being sick 3-4x a day and could only stomach digestive biscuits, plain crisps and banana milkshake. I gave birth to a very healthy 8lb baby.

SurreyisSunny · 03/05/2019 21:30

I’d like to say it improves but I’m 15 weeks and had profiteroles followed by toast with peanut butter for dinner all washed down with watermelon juice. Just couldn’t face a normal dinner.

HannahBee92 · 08/05/2019 11:20

Thanks so much everyone, read every message and it's made me feel so much better! And gave me a good chuckle with some.

Yesterday all I ate were sausage rolls and toast until dinner, then the nausea just stopped and I really fancied a salmon fillet, cucumber and red pepper sticks and hummus. It was amazing haha.

Back to normal nausea today though, so I'm just gonna go with the flow! Marmite is my new craving much to my OH's dismay!

Just read through everyone's posts and I'm the complete opposite!

Since the beginning of my morning sickness (around 6 weeks) I've completely gone off junk food, any form of chocolate or sweet. I crave salads, fruit and fresh foods, also craving home cooked food. It's very frustrating as I crave all this food but can only eat about 5 spoonfuls then I feel like I'm going to burst. I eat fruit every. Single. Day. I can't seem to get enough of it. Junk food makes me feel sick and still hungry! Pregnancy is so hard :(

Greyponcho · 11/05/2019 09:22

Just when I thought I had the “second trimester reprieve” from MS, I’ve had my head in the loo again this morning, coughing up this mornings fruit and actually finding bits of fruit in my tissue when I blow my nose because I’d been retching that hard Envy
