My husband read that canned tuna is damaging for a fetus as contains Mercury which can hinder brain development. I've never heard this and been eating tuna all the way through, not masses but still. Would you avoid?

It's fine but there's a limit to how much you should eat. My midwife said fewer than four tins a week should be fine.

The nhs guidelines state up to two cans a week is safe

tuna is fine in moderation. As PP said its something like 4 tins a week before it is dangerous. I had a craving for tuna for a few days earlier in my pregnancy, and i think i had maybe 3 portions for tuna one day, think about it this way, if you were to have a jacket potato with tuna, one of the smaller cans would probably do 2 potatoes?

I are a lot of tubs when pregnant - probably 3 sandwiches a week or so. I had hyperemisis up to 18 weeks, then craved strong, salty foods. Your husband is right about the mercury in tuna though , but you have to eat a lot if it here is what the Nhs has to sat

It's 4 cans of tuna or 2 tuna steaks per week

Wish I'd known that! I had a massive tuna craving but limited myself to one tin per week. I used to count the days till my next tin.

I’ve had tuna too, no way that a couple of sandwiches a week add up to more than 4 cans. And that’s being cautious so I wouldn’t worry!

Thanks all. I thought I'd have heard this before if it was right. I've no way eaten that much.xx

Before getting pregnant I would have tuna 6 out of the 7 days a week for work. 6th day because I ate half a can a day and had a half left over for Saturday.
So you could have it every day of the week for a sandwich containing half a can and still be fine. I am currently bringing tuna back in to my eating now that the nausea has cleared up a little. Didn't realise how much I missed it.

I’ve been having tuna cravings (I never normally eat it). I’m limiting myself to one Paul baguette a week. Tomorrow is the day :)
