Urine sample for midwife

I'm 18 weeks and have second appointment with the midwife tomorrow afternoon.
I know she'll request a urine sample but I'm wondering if I should take a fmu sample with me, or just wait and do it when I get to the hospital in the afternoon?! Any ideas?

I do remember her saying fmu was best at my booking appointment but that was a 9am one anyway so it wasn't an issue then.

Just not sure what to do. Thanks

Take a fmu one if you have a container, I think they prefer those. Then if it's not what they want, they can ask you for a fresh one during the appt and you're covered either way.

I always took one with me, mine was quite stern and looked almost annoyed if I had forgotten :S hope yours is nicer! Lol

Unless I've had an appointment first thing I've never taken FMU.
Fine to just do one before you go.

I always just took a sample from just prior to leaving the house.

I thought that if they needed to send the sample away for further tests, it needed to be done within two hours?

ememem84 · 28/04/2019 11:17

Mine insists that they are done there and then. Apparently some people bring other people pee with them....

Heyha · 28/04/2019 11:19

I'm sure mine told me NOT to use FMU but in any case I just fill my pot whenever is convenient so I don't have to carry it round all day at work 😂

abcriskringle · 28/04/2019 11:19

Mine always gives me a pot and I take fmu. I prefer that anyway as I can't pee on demand!

Soubriquet · 28/04/2019 11:21

I was always given a pot at the hospital as they liked it fresh.

Luckily they gave me a little paper cup type thing that can be poured into the container

Heyha · 28/04/2019 11:26

I was given a pot at my second appointment and it's been mine to keep ever since (hence trying to avoid carrying a pot around all day). Isn't it weird how there isn't just one set way for something so simple as a urine sample

UserAlice · 28/04/2019 18:25

At my booking appt the midwife gave me a sample pot to do one there and then. She then gave it back to me wrapped in blue paper towel and said it was mine to keep for FMU samples at each appt. What she did NOT tell me is that she gave it back to me full!!! Envy Envy Envy

I always do it at home before I go, whatever the time is. Trying to pee in a tiny pot when you can't even see down there, whilst squatting in a public loo is not fun 😆 x
