Hi all. Im confused right now. I have been taken a tablet called lanzropazole 30mg once a day for the last 8 years for acid reflux. My doctor said they would b ok to take while pregnant. I was talking to midwife at booking appointment yesterday about them and she spoke to a doctor who then presscribed me gertac 150mg to take twice a day. Im confused as when i looked these up it says not ideal for pregnancy and instead there is an alternative called omeprazole which seems to be better. Im now nervous i could have harmed my baby by taking lansroprazole and dont know what to take now. I am reliant and do need to take something. Anyone else experienced acid reflux who i reliant on tablets and if so what did you take ? Sorry for the long confusing thread!

Lansoprazole and omeprazole are both PPIs (proton pump inhibitors), the reason that omeprazole is more recommended during pregnancy instead of lansoprazole is because there's a lot more data on it related to pregnancy outcomes.

Ranitidine (Gertac, Zantac) is a different class of drug and is widely used in pregnancy and not known to be harmful.
If it's working for you and your doctors are happy for you to take it, I wouldn't worry.

I've been prescribed rantidine (the own brand version not gertac or zantac) through 3 pregnancies. They tend to try it before omeprazole because there is more data on its safety in pregnancy (I checked the scientific literature for safety studies in my first pregnancy).

Ranitidine along with occasional gaviscon tablets (and watching how much I eat at once) has been enough so far for me - but the GP did say omeprazole is generally found to be more effective, and I could move to it if I need to. My reflux is hormonal triggered (I have a hiatus hernia) and doesn't get much worse as pregnancy progresses, others do find it gets worse as the baby grows so you may find you need something different later in pregnancy.

I took Omeprazole and TMI ALERT still vomited from acid coming up my throat along with all food contents. Think it's the same as lanzaparole so I wouldn't worry too much.

I ended up losing weight in third trimester bringing stuff up all the time so if it keeps everything down then it's better for you and baby!

I take omeprazole 20mg daily. Used to be 40mg day but once found out pregnant dropped to 20mg. I'm 18 weeks and baby healthy.
