Had my 35 week appointment last week and using that dodgy tape measure the midwife tracked my bump at 38.... we’ve been booked informed a growth scan. Has anyone got any experience of this that they can share? I’m feeling a bit anxious about it.... I do feel huge, can’t bend or put socks on 😭

Have you had the same midwife measuring you throughout?, I had 5 different midwives measure me, at 36 weeks she put the fear of god into me and told me I was on target to have a 10Ib baby!!!! I had a growth scan and he was a perfect 6Ib he was born at 42w weighing 7Ib 8oz

TequilaMockingburd · 25/04/2019 12:43

I have ( Besides one appointment ) she’s a bit scatty though. I’m all anxious about that last measurement and also worries about the 10lb risk too 😭😭😭😭

My bump measured ahead pretty much the whole way and I did have a growth scan at one point but wasn’t told to expect a big baby. DD did end up being 9lb7 so fairly sizeable but the birth was actually less problematic than all of my friends who had smaller babies (8lb or under). So I guess what I’m saying is a big baby doesn’t necessarily mean a more difficult birth

TequilaMockingburd · 25/04/2019 12:59

THank you so much for replying.... I think I was worried it might mean something was wrong, and when the appointment came in the scan is booked and then there is another appointme called ANC immediately afterwards.... it’s that that freaked me out 😭

ANC is antenatal clinic, so I’d assume they’d book you an appointment after the scan just to discuss the results, whatever they are.

Try not to panic - growth scans are notoriously unreliable. According to mine DD should have been about 9lb at birth, she was 7lb 10.

Thanks a million.... I feel a bit better. Fingers crossed 🤞

3 weeks ago I measured 36cm at 31 weeks. My growth scan showed baby at just over 50% line so try not to worry.

TequilaMockingburd · 25/04/2019 16:27

Thank you SO much. I’m trying to be cool..... it’s such a dodgy way of measuring and I felt she was low down with the tape measure.... pregnancy worries, I literally go from one to the other 😭

All the way through pregnancy I measured "average" but then was told at around similar stage to you that I was now measuring 38wks and to "expect a 10lb baby...."

DS was born at 39wks weighing just 7lb (and half an ounce!)

He was really long and to be fair my bump was ENORMOUS but if I was you I wouldn't worry too much until you've at least been for a scan, it'll be a bit more accurate than a scatty midwife with a tape measure Grin

xJune88 · 25/04/2019 16:34

I'm 37+3 and measuring 3 weeks ahead. Have measured big since 31 weeks and not even been offered a scan!! I'd love a scan just to get an idea of what's happening and how big she actually is.. I'm 5ft1 and a size 6/8 before pregnancy so I'm petrified shes going to be a whopper. But no midwives are concerned so I'm on my own! X

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 25/04/2019 16:43

I had an extra scan at 32 weeks I think because I had a high BMI, baby was measuring big, so had another at 36 weeks I think it was, still measuring big, estimated to be 10lb at term. DS was born 11 days over, episiotomy and forceps and a strapping 10lb 11!!

Sizing scans are notorious for being wrong, but I reckon mine was spot on!!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 25/04/2019 16:48

Should add, DH is 6'4 and I'm about 5'8, and neither are slim, but its all fine, DS is almost 8 months old now and a fantastically spirited child!

SinkGirl · 25/04/2019 16:56

It’s really not an exact science - I had twins so they don’t measure bumps but I was massive. Had regular scans which also massively overestimated their weight. They weighed less than 8lb combined but I had them at 35+1

Melamine · 25/04/2019 17:03

My fundal chart is all over the shop - way above the top line, in the exact middle, gone up, steady, up again, then down to less than the last time - all measured by different midwives of course. I've also had three growth scans which were at 82nd, then 6nd, then back to 82nd percentile. Guess I'll find out for sure in a few weeks. I don't think anyone knows until they come out... so what I'm saying is, try not to worry 😂

Melamine · 25/04/2019 17:04

62nd* that should be

Darkstar4855 · 25/04/2019 19:44

My bump measured above the 90th centile. Baby was 8lb8oz. It’s not very accurate.

TequilaMockingburd · 25/04/2019 20:47

Thank you all SO much. I feel way better now. I had convinced myself something was wrong and I was all worried about the ANC thing afterwards... what a top group you all are!

So 3 weeks ago i measured too big and today I am measuring too small, so off for another scan on Monday. This baby is really giving me the run around!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/04/2019 15:47

@TequilaMockingburd Ha, not by choice! When the ultrasound tech told us what the projected weight at term was I practically shouted at her in surprise. Funny looking back, but you'll get through that life throws at you, no choice otherwise tbh.

TequilaMockingburd · 30/04/2019 16:24

Just a wee update, had the scan and at 36 weeks its looking like a big baby but not off the scale....so I feel a bit relieved. 73rd percentile...... I have no idea what weight that is....but no mention of anyone intervening, and so I'm happy.

Thanks for your support :)
