Insane hunger

I am 8w3d and for at least two weeks I’ve been insanely hungry. Like, so hungry I feel sick.

I eat healthy and I weighed 9st6 when I found out I was pregnant (3 weeks ago) but I’ve already gained half a stone! I’m so worried I’m going to end up huge.

I feel hungry to the point I feel sick and like I could pass out. I eat breakfast, dinner and tea and snack on fruit and nuts during the day but I’m like a bottomless pit and craving alllll the carbs. I was even a vegetarian before I got pregnant but I gave into the meat 2 weeks ago.

Please someone tell me the next 7 months aren’t going to be like this or else I’m worried I won’t fit through my front door Confused

Oh I had this. It lasted about 4 days and was awful. So insanely hungry, I would eat a full meal and be starving with in an hour, to the point I would feel like I was going to throw up.

Just eat what you want. Eat all the carbs in the world. It won't last forever, even if it lasts longer than it did for me it will unlikely last beyond the first trimester then you can go back to your normal diet. I'm sure I had chips nearly everyday in my first trimester.

Jinglejanglefish · 24/04/2019 21:16

Oh and I was also having to get up in the night to eat

I'm about 7 weeks and feel hungry but sick at the same time, I didn't put any weight on with my last pregnancy but worried I'm going to put loads on this time! I hope the sick feeling goes off in a few weeks and I can get back to eating 'normally'! Sorry, I know my comment isn't any help to you but I was just about to post something similar Smile

I'm 8+4 and have exactly the same thing. I ate a huge portion of scampi and chips from the chippy for my tea and I'm hungry and queasy again now already.

Thing is, I didn't eat carbs or sugar for 2 years before I got pregnant and now I can't stop!

Mamabear12 · 25/04/2019 05:54

I had the same my last two pregnancies and gained 23 kilos each time! Luckily my metabolism is usually fast so lost it all after both times. During pregnancy my metabolism seems to slow down, yet I’m always hungry. Pregnant w a third and this time around I’m less hungry. But I’m only 5 weeks and a few days.

mynameiscalypso · 25/04/2019 08:00

I had exactly the same - carbs were my life for a while. It doesn't last forever though, I promise!

RMarieClaire · 25/04/2019 08:26

I had this too. I think it's completely normal. I'd suggest upping your snack game! In my first trimester instead of 3 big meals I would eat 5 or 6 smaller throughout the day. Try making some healthy sandwiches to keep you going between the classic meals. Avoid sugary snacks as they can make your blood sugar go haywire and make you hungrier.

One thing I noticed was because I couldn't stand the taste of tea or coffee, I felt emptier. I tried to have more herbal tea but really just had to wait to get used to this.

I'm with you OP. The constant, intense hunger is horrible, I've had it throughout all my pregnancies.

Whatever you do, do NOT "Just eat whatever you want" like a PP suggested. I did this and put on 5 stone. FIVE STONE! (the maximum you're supposed to gain is 2.5 stone.) And I'm short so I only weighed 8 stone to start with.
Took me a LOT of effort to lose it afterwards. Trust me, even with the hunger, it's easier to watch what you eat now than try and lose it later. Make healthy choices. Lucozade is your friend.

I was like this until the nut cravings started. Now I am really satiated. Suggest you increase the protein you eat. I have one or two meals a day that is nothing but protein and vegetables.

whitehalleve · 25/04/2019 09:49

It's normal. Just go for carbs and don't worry. It goes after the first trimester.

Jinglejanglefish · 25/04/2019 10:11

I ate what I wanted and didn't gain a load of weight. It's only for the first trimester, your body is telling you what it needs, just go with it. It's a very short time.

Heyha · 25/04/2019 10:57

I was like that and same sort of size as you to begin with- I won't lie I put on a fair bit of weight in the first trimester because of it, but my appetite went back to normal at about 11 weeks then the indigestion kicked in at about 15 weeks so my appetite really went downhill. In some ways I'm glad I had the literal and figurative cushion of putting weight on early because if I hadn't, and my appetite had gone the way it has, I don't think I'd have been as healthy as I've been so far. Now at 32 weeks it varies daily depending on where baby is sitting- if it's a bladder day I'm hungry, if it's a bum in my stomach day I have to just eat lots of small meals and snacks or my indigestion is horrible.

kpeanut94 · 25/04/2019 12:21

I've had insane hunger from start to finish, I'm usually so petite 6 stone 8 but I'm now 10 stone at week 35.😂 I can't control my eating even now, I'm laid in bed on maternity leave eating Easter eggs lol.

Capybaras · 25/04/2019 12:23

I've been exactly the same as you OP. Felt completely fine then would have sudden ravenous hunger which if I didn't eat straight away I would vomit. As soon as I eat I feel fine again! Felt this the whole way through my pregnancy (29+2 now) but I make sure I eat little and often and try to have healthy snacks (although sometimes all I want is carbs!). Just make sure you always have snacks with you and water, as I found that the hunger was so sudden if I wasn't prepared it didn't end well!

Thanks everybody, nice to know it’s not just me but very rubbish for us all haha. I am due in December and getting married in May. I’ve already got my dress before I fell pregnant so I simply can’t put weight on Halo
