Hi ladies, I am having terrible constipation no matter how fibre I eat. Do any of you have any experience with a pregnancy safe laxative?

I’ve suffered terribly for months! Then I discovered Lactulose and it’s a life saver! You can but it over the counter at the chemist

PrayingandHoping · 24/04/2019 17:31

Prune juice. Drink on an empty stomach just a mug full. Worked for me

thinkingcapon · 24/04/2019 17:32

Glycerine supps

Mum637k · 24/04/2019 17:48

@Curlywurly3 did you take it daily?

Laculose! 15ml daily after dinner. No dramatic effects but keeps everything moving!

workinprogressmum · 24/04/2019 19:08

Was going to write a similar post but mine has been extreme despite taking regular lactulose. I have fecal impaction and had been trying to get poo out since 7pm last night. Went to GP today and she gave me glycerine suppositories and movicol (initially 2 sachets but to up it slowly). Have managed to get some out but still struggling. Keep drinking and eating as normal (especially more water).

Mum637k · 24/04/2019 19:49

Thanks everyone for the responses. Got lactulose now so hopefully that will help!

Yep take it daily. Well, if I've been I have a day or two off as I forget but it does work pretty quickly. At first I took it twice a day, 15ml each time.. just to help things get started. My midwife told me to do that. Good luck!

Mum637k · 27/04/2019 23:47

@Curlywurly3 @Cosmogirl86 did you/do you have any gas pains while going to the loo?

Mum637k · 27/04/2019 23:48

@workinprogressmum how are you getting on? How much lactulose have you been taking?

Eating nuts, bananas and milk everyday helps me. I take fybogel when things get too bad

workinprogressmum · 28/04/2019 08:36

@Mum637k after lots of pain and difficulty, I moved the solid lump. I've been on 35-40ml daily lactulose to keep things going.

It's my antisickness medication causing it so there's little that food can do.

I get pains and gas and nausea with the lactulose too 🙈

Mum637k · 28/04/2019 08:40

@workinprogressmum oh I'm so sorry, really glad you are better now though. How did you even realise there was a lump? Is that something that you can feel? I've only been taking lactulose for 3 days or so but I didn't go at all on Friday which I thought was odd considering I still went everyday before just too little and hard🙈

@Mum637k oh gosh, I don't know how much is tmi but I could feel it in my bottom. I was pushing for hours and it wouldn't move. I had to put gloves on and remove some manually, just to get some relief. I went to the GP and she was shocked at how hard everything was in my large bowel on the left hand side. It happened because I didn't take the lactulose for a couple of days. I've been drinking litres of water / juice etc and things are still on the firmer side but I can still go a couple of times a day! (Normal for me)

I hope you don't get fecal impaction and you keep being able to move things along. If you feel the lactulose isn't helping, your GP might be able to give you something else. The glycerine suppositories were a god send!

TanJ18 · 28/04/2019 08:49

I know this feeling so well! Currently 19 weeks and suffered since week 12
Lactalose helps! And defo the glycerin tablets- although would suggest not planning much that day when you use one. Blush
Hope it improves xxx

Mum637k · 28/04/2019 09:52

@workinprogressmum @TanJ18 thanks for the info ladies! Im going to try to up my fibre intake too let's hope it helps 🤞🏻 but to not eat crisps and chocolate... not sure how I will manage that 😞

@workinprogressmum I have literally just had to do the same. That was one of the worst moments of my life. I haven’t experienced childbirth yet but honestly that mustn’t have been too far off. Horrible and now petrified of needing to go ever again! I feel like I want to drink half the bottle of Lactulose!!

workinprogressmum · 28/04/2019 18:06

Oh bless you @Curlywurly3! Definitely been a pregnancy low so far. I'd have done a poo in literally any position if needed! It took about 15 hours and lots of intervention to get moving again. Now taking about 30-40ml lactulose a day, even though it doesn't make you feel great.

Hope you and @Mum637k feel better soon and things pass more freely!

Angelinthenightx · 28/04/2019 18:15

Drinking lots of water helps & fruit esp melon & oranges or even orange juice if u wanted a more natural way, helps me.

AnnieCat84 · 28/04/2019 19:53

Lactulose has helped me!
That and making sure I'm drinking at least two litres of water a day!
