Does this happen at the dating scan? What happens during the test? Any risks for myself or the baby? Thankyou all x

Measurement of baby taken as part of dating scan process then you give a normal blood sample afterwards. Nothing invasive for the foetus at this point.

Then you get a letter in the post giving you a risk factor that they've calculated, my risk was really low (but it's not a yes/no process either) so it just said you will NOT be offered further screening, but the link above gives info about further screening if they think it's necessary.

Some places do the bloods part of the combined test at your booking appointment then the results are ready when you have your scan. Other hospitals do the bloods at the scan appointment and send the results out in the post within a couple of weeks of the scan. Your midwife should explain this to you when you see them - and you should be given a booklet all about the different screening tests you will be offered during your pregnancy.
