Alcohol while pregnant - completely abstain or small amount v occasionally?

I've scoured NHS and Web MD for this and advice seems to vary, opinions with my friends are also divisive.

Would you treat yourself to a small amount of booze (ie 1 glass of champagne or a small glass of wine) very occasionally, ie once or twice throughout your whole pregnancy?

Or completely abstain 100%?

Just to clarify - I haven't drank a single drop in my pregnancy so far, but I would like to have a small glass of something on my birthday which is roughly half way.

It can make heartburn bad during the last trimester though

I’m not saying it’s right of course it isn’t but nowadays there is so much info just to scare or confuse people.

Are you really saying that the advice to abstain from alcohol and smoking during pregnancy is designed to scare or confuse people rather than based on scientific evidence?

Of course that’s not what I’m saying, im speaking more generally that there is so much info out there now that is confusing or just OTT. OP isn’t suggesting she’s going to have a bottle of wine & 40 cigarettes is she? It’s one glass of wine

The day I got my positive test I stopped drinking (basically day my period was due!). So its been two weeks. On holiday we were drinking daily with friends and family. Half way through I stopped lol. I do miss having a glass of wine sometimes. But I have decided I would not drink and try to create new habits to wind down in the evening. At the moment, its drinking ice cold water lol...but then I have to wake and pee a few times a night! So now I am trying to think of what else I could have lol.
