Prozac & pregnancy

So I'm twenty weeks and super struggling mentally.
I just went to the GP and she prescribed 20mg Prozac.
Just curious if anyone out there is on/has been on Prozac while pregnant?
I've tried sertraline, mirtazapine, and citalopram previously none of which worked for me & made me actively suicidal, so I'm really hoping this one makes a difference.
I was trying to hold off until my PNMH app next week, but it's been cancelled with no known date of rebooking, which felt like a huge tipping point for me.

@Parent19876 I'm not pregnant but take Prozac, my GP always told me she'd get me off it if I was pregnant/planned to get pregnant as apparently it can really increase the risk of autism.

I take sertraline but my psych and the perinatal mental health team have both told me that Prozac is one of the safest ADs to take in pregnancy. There was some research that come out a couple of months ago that said it was even safer than they first thought too. I hope it helps you Flowers

My obstetrician was fine about me taking prozac during pregnancy

I struggle with anxiety disorders which for me can tip over into depression when they get out of control. In my first pregnancy, I was taking Paroxetine and was advised to come off it by my doctor. A few weeks later I was really struggling and was put on amitryptiline as an alternative. I had horrendous antenatal depression throughout that pregnancy and was suicidal on occasions. I never want to feel like that again.

This time I was on sertraline before pregnancy. My gp was over cautious and changed me to fluoxetine (prozac) when I became pregnant. I miscarried but stayed on the fluoxetine. I became pregnant again and was referred to an incredible perinatal mental health team. They said that sertraline would have been fine, but fluoxetine is also fine. I was kept on 20mg at first but then began to struggle so went up to 40 and I've been great. I'm now 31 weeks and the end is in sight.

I absolutely feel that it is worth taking the meds during pregnancy. They are safe, far safer than feeling so mentally unwell. Good luck!

Ps Any of these medications will unfortunately make you feel worse before you feel better. Stick with it! Oh and my little boy is perfect. He's been a bit slow to reach milestones but is now 4 and he's amazing. He charms everyone he meets and is going to be absolutely fine.
