Hello! 40+1 today with second baby. Planned Home birth.

I've just had my first sweep and it wasn't very nice (didn't expect it to be)

What can I expect now? Did a sweep help you along?
It's made baby very active and making me feel a bit sick. I've also got a bit of stinging down below and back ache now.

My midwife said she can come to my home every 48 hours now for further sweeps until baby comes out.... I just want her out now 😫
It's so hot here and I'm getting so frustrated with everything. My 2 year old is very hard work at the moment too and my DH is away working so I feel very lonely and so stupidly over emotional!

Please tell me a sweep worked for you?!

I had about 4 sweeps in total. One by my midwife then 2 in hospital as I was 42 weeks by the time I went into labour. My last sweep was on the Wednesday and I didn’t go into labour until the very early hours of Friday morning. I found the more uncomfortable the sweep the more things started happening. Good luck; my son was born in July 2017 and it was absolutely roasting and I was miserable and fed up x

Sweeps are one of those things that might kick start something but probably only if it was imminent I think. I've had a lot!

Dd1 and 3 were both induced at 42wks so I would have had at least 2 sweeps prior to that, neither of which started labour.

Dd2 I had a sweep on the Friday at 41wks and my MW basically said, doesn't look like anything's imminent and booked me for induction at 42wks. On the Monday I woke and thought I felt my waters go a little so trotted up to the MLU who told me they hadn't but gave me another sweep for good luck and said I think you'll have her in the next 24hrs. By lunchtime I was contracting, my waters went at 2am and I had her at 8am. She was my only spontaneous labour.

Good luck!

My midwife was positive but I think she was just trying to make me feel better!

I'm 3cm dilated (I was 2cm 2 weeks ago) so slow progress.

Getting lots of sharp stinging pains down below now. Making me feel like I'm going to puke.

I just want the horrible bit over with and baby here 😩😩😩

I hope something has happened for you by now but just thought I'd let you know that a sweep definitely worked for me! Had one at 40+3 around 11am, started contracting at 4pm and DS was here at 12.46pm the following day Smile good luck!

I had a sweep at 41 weeks exactly. I found it more than just a bit uncomfortable. It bloody hurt! DD was born 41+4 so for me I don’t think the sweep did anything except cause uneccesary pain. I won’t be having one this time round and will just wait and see although I fully understand feeling well and truly fed up and wanting baby out!

She came out at 6:30pm!!
8pounds 2oz!! Grin
She's beautiful. I sting! No pain relief at all so pretty proud of myself!

NEVER AGAIN!
