Seeing the sex at 20 week scan

Hi everyone, recently we went for our 20 week scan and myself and my husband are sure we both spotted the sex of our baby whilst the sonographer was doing the femur measurements and moving around the lower half. We asked to not be told the sex so haven't got it confirmed if what we saw was right or not.

I just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience, and turned out to be right in their guess?

Thanks😊

I was convinced that I could tell by looking at the scan photo & was gutted as we didn't want to find out..... I got it completely wrong & hastily had to think of some girls names when she was born!

That's a bit of a shame, I said I didn't want to know and the sonographer told me to look away at certain moments! I wouldn't take it as a given - neither of you are sonographers so you may be completely wrong!

I think that if you consider some sonographers get it wrong, and sometimes can’t even see what it is, I’m sure you’ll be fine. Some people think they’ve seen boy bits and it’s the umbilical cord.
I’ve seen some shout out what they think it is.. before even looking at the actual area!

To be fair to the sonographer, they didn't actually tell you the sex and from what I remember from when I have had the 20 week scan, they do have to check for ovaries etc to make sure everything is OK. Checking baby is healthy is the reason for the scan in the first place, surely that's the most important thing to you?

At my most recent scan I definitely saw a penis though, I'd said it before she said anything.

Well there was no missing that our ds is a ds. It was clear as day on the scan.

Thanks for your replies ladies, it seems there's a pretty even balance of being right and wrong when it comes to seeing something. We will just have to wait and see!

@Jakethekid this post was in no way intended to bash the sonographer or suggests I'm upset about knowing, there's always those who take things the wrong way on Mumsnet lol!

I never actually said you were bad mouthing the sonographer. Just saying rhay sometimes it is unavoidable.
