First scan day before 2 week holiday

Hi there

I am about 11 weeks pregnant and have been offered an initial scan the day before I go away for 2 weeks to Florida. I am not sure whether to go for this one or postpone it as if anything goes wrong and I need an op. (heaven forbid), I wouldn't be able to go on my holiday. At the same time, I really want to know if everything's ok.

Anybody been in this position? So hard to decide...

Thanks...

Could you book a slightly earlier private scan?

Lorechka · 19/04/2019 14:21

Potentially. Only trouble is, I go next Thursday so even if I got a private one, it still would probably be too close to the holiday if I needed anything done....

If anything goes wrong and you need an op I don’t think your first thought would be “but I was really looking forward to playing with Micky in Disneyland”...

Isn't there only a small window to have the 12 week scan where they can check for DS and other conditions?

I'd just have the scan to be honest or pay for the earlier private one just so you've got a few days extra notice

They can't do the NT scan after 14+0. So would you be under 14 weeks for sure when you came back?

anonforthespies43267 · 19/04/2019 14:25

I would go for the scan, put your health & baby first.

Prequelle · 19/04/2019 14:27

I would go. Wouldn't even dream of not going. If God forbid there is something wrong it's better you knowing than something unexpected happening whilst you're thousands of feet in the air or in a foreign country with very expensive healthcare.

Prequelle · 19/04/2019 14:28

And you will miss the NT scan.

I know in my area it's a very like it or lump it attitude when it comes to scan appointments so rescheduling one after within the 14 weeks would be difficult

Lorechka · 19/04/2019 14:30

Yes my gut instinct is to go for it as I really want to know if everything is ok. Would put my mind at rest a bit before the holiday if everything was alright. Like you say, if anything was wrong then my mind wouldn't be on the holiday anyway....

I was in the same position last year, only difference was scan was the day before we went on a 2 week cruise. It was fine. Realistically the scan was a Friday afternoon anyway so couldn’t expect any appointments till the Monday if there had been anything. It was absolutely fine & much nicer to go away knowing all was well with baby.
