Coccyx pain

29 weeks today and I swear with every new week comes a new symptom I didn't see coming. Today, from nowhere, excruciating pain in my coccyx, not unlike the time I slammed down on my tail bone on a dance floor after one too many.

Any tips on alleviating coccyx pain? I sit down a lot for work

Sadly mine never went away after my first who is 8 this year... I find having multiple different cushions (specialised and normal) to switch between when I need to be sat at my desk helps. As does standing up, stretching upwards (I don't mean full on yoga stretch but just stand tall) and sitting straight back down also alleviates pain. Heat pads (multiple!) around, above and below are fabulous too.

Just remember your employer must make adjustments to accommodate you so if that means you aren't at your desk because you have to walk every 20 minutes for a couple minutes they need to help you do that.

Mine has aches a bit from the increased pressure I think. I just try not to stay in the same position for ages and switch to standing desk every once in a while.

I had this exact same thing at about the same time, the midwife sent me to a physio about it that was a bit unhelpful as none of it worked. Suggestions were to get a coccyx or donut cushion, sit on a birth ball, get a back support.. none of these were massively helpful really and painkillers didn't help either.

My job also includes sitting at my desk for hours on end and work didn't have any suggestions or a standing desk option. The physio mentioned getting my doctor to sign me off work early; but as this would mean it would trigger my maternity leave earlier I just decided to put in all of my holidays instead.

The best thing since finishing work is the pains still there but nowhere near as bad, I try to use the ball a lot :) and I'm really hoping it recovers fast.

Also bare in mind for birth that with a damaged coccyx it could get worse if you deliver on your back, all fours or knees and leant forward are the best positions the physio said. Hope it gets better cos I know how much it can kill!

Hi all, late to this thread but am now 32 weeks and struggling with coccyx pain. Unfortunately I have a job that involves sitting down all day - I try and get up as much as possible but it's got to a point now where my coccyx is constantly aching. I've ordered a orthopaedic pillow - have you found anything else that helps? I've been going to pregnancy yoga and practicing the positions at home but not sure if I can bear another 5 weeks of work if it's going to be like this!
