Baby moving down?

I'm 36+3 with dc2 and since yesterday have been really uncomfortable, more so than usual I mean! Had a sudden sharp pain feeling in my groin last night that took my breath away and was wondering if this was the baby moving down? Since then LO has been moving about loads, never seen my belly undulate so much! I have been feeling strange since then, very hard to describe, bump feels very 'heavy' and tasks that didn't concern me 2 days ago now seem to need a monumental effort to get done, for example picking up dd's toys. Every so often I get a jabbing sensation in my groin, not painful as such but noticeable!! Have slight niggling backache too. I'm sure it is the baby moving down, just can't remember it happening quite so obviously with dd (and it was only 19 months ago. What do you think? Have midwife appointment on Monday.

I don't know, but please don't worry. He/she is just moving around in there!

AND BUMP!

Ooh, you must be pretty much the same date as me - are you due on August 10th/11th? It sounds as the baby might have engaged, I guess, particularly if you have a heavy feeling in your groin. Mine has been moving around loads, but it's upside down so I haven't felt much in my pelvis, more around my middle. There's a v nice August ante-natal club here, btw, if you're interested... www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2290&threadid=353887&stamp=070714193901

Sounds like the head is moving down into the pelvis, boowidger. Mine did the same a few days ago (I'm 39w) and I really noticed a difference - as you say, groin/pelvic pain, difficult to pick things up etc. My bump has also moved down and I'm feeling a lot more backachey, which I put down to the effect on my centre of gravity caused by the bump changing position. Your midwife can palpate you on Monday and let you know if you are in any way engaged (I was 2/5 engaged on Tuesday but I reckon it's moved down further since then). HTH.

im the same as you almost exactly [37 weeks on tues]and have felt the same..im finding it harder to walk as it feels like the baby is right down there in the groin ..ive been brill up until this week and finding it also harder to do things but cant remember what it was like either..my last pregnancy was 6 yrs ago..midwife however checked me last monday and did say the head was well down and wrote in my notes 3/5 ..which im not sure whether the head is 3/5 down or 2/5 down and that is what she`s actually feeling ..confusing isnt it?

Miaou · 14/07/2007 22:22

bambi - did she write 3/5 engaged or 3/5 palpable? If she just wrote 3/5 then the odds are it is 3/5 palpable - in other words, 2/5 engaged.

There you go, Boo!

Thanks for the replies, pretty much as I thought! I'm due on the 8th August, not long to go... Sailed through last pregnancy and have found that things have been, shall we say, a little different this time!! Wasn't expecting the nausea, sciatica, heartburn, sleeplessness, thrush, piles (sorry!) or the fact that i am MASSIVE this time around - from photographs we've worked out that my size at 40+4 with DD was the same as the size I was at 26 weeks this time! Hopefully midwife will give me some information on Monday that will make the next 3/4/5 weeks seem not too distant!!!

Annie75, thanks for the link, I haven't joined the due in August thread as only started posting on MN again (after pregnancy with dd) a couple of weeks ago and don't want to feel like the new kid in town!! I am one of those who likes to lurk around all the different threads and post if something catches my eye. Good luck though and i'll keep an eye out for all the imminent arrival notices!
