I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Blii a lot of people on here over the months I’ve been on the thread have complained with the excess saliva thing, it’s another nasty symptom of hg I’m afraid.

Hermione I have the same worries with money/house space etc. We’re going to have to convert the playroom downstairs into a bedroom at some point and finances will be stretched. All I can say is people cope and adapt and it will be ok in the end. At least I hope so because that’s what I’m betting on! Also re fluids and triage being weird about doing it unless ketones at a specific point, if your consultant recommends it I’d get the consultant to speak directly to triage to sort out a plan where they will treat you in there. Surely what a consultant says should trump what mws in triage say? They may even be able to get you regularly booked in for set days and times (which is what mine was going to do for the steroid injection).

Got to get up in a min for bloods at hospital. Feeling overwhelmed with what I want to get done before baby is here and how little I’ll actually manage to get done. Have glider chair in bedroom now with dd is obsessed with rocking on, I don’t think she’s ever going to let me sit on it Wink

Reastie · 10/06/2019 11:27

So my car isn’t working :( went to go to hospital and wouldn’t start. Thank goodness this didn’t happen on Wednesday morning on way to section! Can you imagine?! Awaiting rac who will probably arrive when I need a nap and really worried it’ll need to go to a garage and I’ll have to go too to take it and won’t manage it and then by the time dh comes home from work they won’t come back out again to get him to go if they’ve already come once. So feeeling really anxious about it all and just hoping they can fix it here. So typical my super reliable car gives up now!

composed · 10/06/2019 15:50

ugh I still have the horrid taste in my mouth along with extra saliva just before I am about to throw up.

Lucinda yes I meant deaddoorpost! didn’t even realise it could read like that till you pointed it out and I did chuckle, no offence meant to anyone x

Reastie did you make it to the hospital for the appointment? What a horrid time for it to not work! I haven’t driven for almost 2 months now feel so wobbly when I do.

Having the same battle re bathing again, need to but can’t. When did everyone feel the baby move? I haven’t felt anything yet not sure if I am worrying more than usual about it.

DeadDoorpost · 10/06/2019 18:22

composed DS I felt kicks around 18 weeks, this time round 26 weeks.

Blii · 10/06/2019 18:56

It’s the worst symptom that is lingering. I’m still sick some mornings. And I know the saliva thing is linked to being sick, apparently it’s the bodies way of protecting the teeth against the acids of throwing up. But i have too much saliva all day long... even when I’m not being sick. I still feel nauseous all day though, so probably that’s why. Urgh. Just something else I have to get used to.
I’ve also developed heartburn I think, it’s not really painful, it’s just a burn in my chest and it’s worse when I lay down. I also have weird burps that feel really dense, if that makes any sense haha. Gaviscon is helping though so it must be mild.
Just getting fed up now I guess. I’m definitely not having anymore babies after this one! Husband can have the snip!
August can’t come soon enough!

I hope that everyone is feeling ok. Composed, I felt baby move around 15 weeks. 3rd baby though. His movements now actually hurt sometimes! He’s getting so strong. I do not remember painful movements with the other two.

putputput · 10/06/2019 19:01

Blii - not glamorous but I can only cope with the excess saliva by constantly spitting it out in to a sick bowl. I really sympathise, it's horrible.

LucindaE · 10/06/2019 21:15

Reastie and comosed Glad you got a laugh from that. Grin.
It does sum up how you feel.
Reastie Sorry about the car; that is the last straw when you feel overwhelmed anyway.
HermiioneKipper So sorry you were admitted again. Things will get better, and I am sure you will become excited about the twins then. Sorry, I can't remember if you said you had had Hyperemesis before. If you didn't with a singleton pregnancy, there does seem from what I have seen on here, that though you suffer very badly with a twin preganncy in the beginning, you are much less likley to suffer for a long time than those who have it with a singleton pregnancy. I'm not medical, obviously; but I wonder if it is because if you suffer with a singleton pregnancy, it isan underlying hormonal imbalance, but if with a twin one it is more likely an overdose of hormones, or some such thing?
Bili and ClareDB and putputput The excess saliva thing is truly horrible. A lot of sufferers resort to a 'spit bowl'.
Waves to DeadDoorPost and everyone.

I first felt movement around 18 weeks. Coming up to 22 weeks now and I feel movement everyday, though generally only if I’m laying down or sitting quietly. I did find out from my morphology scan that I have an anterior placenta, so that’s probably blocking quite a bit of the movement from me.

beforeIhit30 · 11/06/2019 14:06

Hi all, a lot of well wishes to everyone. I’ve been a combination of slightly busier than usual and also needing recovery time, so I’ve been very quiet on here.

Another one with anterior placenta here, all three times. I was over 20 weeks when I properly felt movement for my first two composed, with this one I started slightly earlier, around 18 weeks, but mainly flutters and more used to it now being the third pregnancy so spotted it sooner. But noticeable movements were also after 20 weeks.

I’m 28 weeks now and this child seems to be doing self defence training in there Confused

Baby is doing well and I’m measuring to dates, which has been reassuring. Managed to do a little bit of organising, and we’ve put the buggy together (took way longer than I expected! Thankfully DH handled most of it!). We’ve pretty much bought all of the essentials, apart from nappies and formula (really don’t need those until closer to the time) so it’s currently a case of slowly breaking down boxes (there are so many, Amazon needs some serious talking to), clearing areas etc and hopefully adding up to a relatively organised house by the time baby arrives. By the way I was not this organised before for my other DCs Grin but having time on my hands has meant that on good days, adding to the baby list on Amazon has been how I’ve spent my time!

composed · 11/06/2019 18:53

Thank you everyone re the baby movements, I am a bit paranoid due to a previous mmc and petrified of any sort of scans.

Reastie how are you? I’m sure you mentioned tomorrow’s the big day? I hope everything goes well and by this time tomorrow you are hg free x

LucindaE · 11/06/2019 18:56

beforeihit30 and TwoShades1. Goodness, an anteriior placenta makes a big difference! I first felt feathery strokings at 14 weeks when waiting for the results of an amnio (they do them later now so as to lessen the risk of miscarriage, I think).

Appalling weather. I have the heating on. But at least, people on the thead won't feel left out of happy sunny weather activities!

Sorry not for popping in earlier today. Been busy trying to get stuff ready and organised mixed with having to rest for overdoing it and feelignawful. Hasn’t been cancell3 yet so hoping all go for tomorrow. Please cross your fingers for me for everything going to plan. I’m so so scared and don’t know how I’ll cope with it all. And now i’m sitting here worrying because I haven’t noticed much movement of baby today but I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve been distracted and not noticed it or if it hasn’t happened.

Thinking of you all and will let you know how things go.

Before sounds like you’re pretty organised.

Composed I have an anterior placenta and didn’t feel much until 18-20 weeks and never got a proper regular pattern of movement like they say you do.

DeadDoorpost · 11/06/2019 21:13

Had anterior placenta with DS, should have mentioned that.

reastie I'd phone about the movements, even if you're due in tomorrow.

TwoShades1 · 11/06/2019 22:07

Good luck tomorrow Reastie. I think after a Hg pregnancy it’s nice to be moving on to the next chapter in life. Even though I’m generally feeling good I’m still counting down til the end.

ClareDB · 11/06/2019 22:43

Good luck tomorrow @reastie! Looking forward to hearing how it went and really hoping everything goes to plan for you.

I had my booking appointment today and it went surprisingly well. I felt okay whilst there but I've felt awful this evening, vomiting, nausea and dizziness. Hoping I'll feel better in the morning as I've got to go back for a blood test.

BlodwynBludd · 12/06/2019 06:50

Good luck Reastie. Exciting times!

avacadooo · 12/06/2019 09:30

Just a super quick message to update. Baby boy born 6lbs 10 this morning. Hospital so far have been brilliant with anti emetics. Had fluids and ondansetron iv on arrival. Haven’t tried eating anything post section yet as too scared but not feeling sick in hg way. Will update properly when I can. Hope it gives you all some hope for it ending and you haven’t had a terrible day.

putputput · 12/06/2019 15:54

Huge congratulations Reastie ThanksThanks

Enjoy all the newborn squishiness and I hope the nausea quickly becomes a distant memory. You're a heroine and you got there!!

beforeIhit30 · 12/06/2019 16:38

Congratulations Reastie! Baby boy is quite a good size for an earlier delivery too, it seems? How wonderful Flowers Hoping you’ve got instant HG recovery!

Marty93 · 12/06/2019 17:27

@Reastie oh wow massive congratulations! Hope you are feeling ok and recovery goes well :)

Xxx

PinkSpring · 12/06/2019 17:59

So been signed off for the last four weeks. Called the other day for an extension and they got back to me today (so three days later) to say the doctor won't sign me off without a review....

I didn't have this last time, they just kept signing me off until I felt better. I am sure it's because I am not using the medication anymore, it didn't help me at all and I am just coping with it the best I can and ensuring my ketones stay up by eating/drinking what I can manage.

So I am a bit pissed off I now have to basically "explain" myself again and drag myself to the doctors.

HarryPotterFan436 · 12/06/2019 18:09

Congratulations on your little boy reastie. I hope you have managed to eat something by now and are feeling much better.
