No gestation sac at 5 weeks, what is going on?

Hi everyone. I have just recently found out I am pregnant! But as of yesterday, I should be 5 weeks. I went and got a vaginal ultrasound and there is nothing in my uterus. no gestation sac or anything. I have a very sharp pain on the right part of my belly. I go back for another ultrasound in a week to see if there is any progress but right now I am terrified. I don't know what is going on.

It’s very common not to see the sac in early pregnancy. This happened to me, they queried ectopic pregnancy but a week later there it was all was well and DD is 10 now.

That is what they are suggesting it is as of right now, they said to come back in a week to see, I'm just nervous. IDK if it is just me thinking I have side pains or I really do. I am currently a mess.

Congratulations! Agree with previous posters. There's not much going on for the first few weeks of beans life visibly so try and relax until your next scan. Literally everything is soooooo small! 💐

Hey, I was having sharp pains to my right last week and was sent to EPU. They suspected ectopic but done bloods done bee 48 hours which showed an increase. I went back today for a scan as they couldn't see yolk sac last week but they saw it today. I'm back in 2 weeks for another scan to see baby and heartbeat. Try not to worry. I know it's a lot easier said than done but you're still very early, it's not abnormal to see nothing. I'm 5+2 xx

Why did you have an ultrasound at 5 weeks? Was this NHS at their recommendation, or a private scan?

Rememberallball · 18/04/2019 06:31

At this early point it may be they can’t see anything because you may have ovulated later than expected so not be as far along as expected. I would have expected them to give you blood tests at 48 hour intervals to confirm hCG levels are rising within expected rates and then to try scanning again in 7-10 days.

Same thing happened to me today. I'm meant to be 6 weeks plus 2 days pregnant but they couldn't see a sac in the vaginal scan. I went to NHS and in the afternoon I had a private scan. My cycle can range from 28 days to 39 days long. The Consultant said that there is still a thick lining and it doesn't look like that a pregnancy has passed. It could be that it's too early for me. The scans together show that there isn't an etopic pregnancy which is great.

Original I went into EPU for my spotting and it turns out that I had a polyp. The special nurse found it and I paid private to get a gynaecologist to look at it. He did just now and removed it successfully!

I'm waiting for blood test result to see whether hormones level has increased.

Fingers crossed!

Probably no one else is on this thread now but for those who are googling this issue and looking for comfort. I am giving a little update from my last post.

Last post was written on a Monday. The day after, on Tuesday I went for another scan required by EPU and they found a sac! What difference 24 hours can make!

Today, is a week Wednesday, so 8 days after they found a tiny sac, it's now grown into a 13.5m sac but no yolk yet. I'm very concerned that this could be blighted ovum. I have a scan in 7 days time and I will update here again.

The likelihood is that you're just a little early to see anything but the pain on one side is something you need to keep an eye on. I had a strong but dull pain on my right side and no sac visible on the scan and it turned out to be ectopic so if you're at all worried do go back to the EPU.

Hi could anyone help me, I’m 36/5 days pregnant and my pallets are low. Has anyone had this on here. Please help I’m worrying. Thanks

IcelandicYoghurt · 12/06/2019 11:53

@Jlll you'd be much better off starting your own thread to get advice, hardly anyone will see your question here Smile

Jlll · 12/06/2019 11:54

Ok thank you

niamhzs · 12/06/2019 12:21

@hdipper17 fingers crossed for you. I went two days ago for a scan and there was absolutely nothing. I went today two days after and there it was, gestational sac. Don't loose hope. A lot happens in that time xx
