I'm scheduled to have the gestational diabetes test in the morning and have 2 questions.

  1. Can i drink as much water as I need to or should it just be a little bit.
  2. Can i not have gaviscon for the night?

I was booked for mine today - I was told that I was only allowed a very limited amount of water and only then because my veins are uncooperative if I'm dehydrated.

Yeah i am terrible at drinking water and my bloods cant be taken unless i drink atleast 2 litres of water the day before so they said Make sure i drink atleast 1 litre minimum ideally

I had one, wasn't told of any restrictions on water but there is on chewing gum...I would have probably had some if they hadn't told me!

You can sip water up to the test. After the glucose drink they give you a certain amount in a cup, I had mine today.

Crashing this thread with another question. Does this happen at your 28 week appointment or before? I'm having my appointment next week - technically 30 weeks as I have my anti d jab. I have a blood test on Tuesday, and the appointment on Friday. But confused what's for the anti d and what's for diabetes

Jumping on this thread if I may? I also have my test at 9am tomorrow morning. I didn't get a letter or anything with any info (midwife just booked it when I was at an appointment with her) and I can't remember what was said!! What time am I not allowed to eat / drink anything from? I had in my head it was midnight but I'm sat here with my decaf tea in a bit of a panic!

Chanandlersbong · 16/04/2019 22:50

OP no gaviscon and as much water as you wish.
DBCG my test is booked for 9am and my letter says water or black tea/coffee unsweeted only after midnight.

Chanandlersbong · 16/04/2019 22:51

JBCG * sorry

I had the test done yesterday and I wasn't allowed to drink more than 150-200 ml of water from 10 pm the night before. I also wasn't allowed any food obviously or chewing gum. Idk if it's the same in England but from the time you drink the sugar water til the test is done, takes 2 hours where you aren't allowed to move around much. So bring a tablet (with headphones) or a book or just your phone. Because those 2 hours are LONG.
