Being made redundant

So I work for a large company and been told today my job is at risk of redundancy. I’m not due to go on maternity leave til 8th July. The consultation period is 30 days so then with notice it’s 60 days which falls shy of my mat leave date meaning I have no protection over my maternity pay. Difference between what I would get with the company and statutory is large, 7.5k over 9 months -vs- 4k

Any advice? I can’t find much in policies or online just that my pay is only protected when already on mat leave.

Could you bring your mat leave forward ?

How long have you worked for the company?

How many other people are being made redundant?

Hi OP

You might getting advice under work/employment issues but also look at the charity maternity action or pregnant and screwed. Don't know if you have a union, but you should call them.

As the previous posted mentions you could bring your leave forward, possibly? You'd 'lose' a months salary but gain the additional pay?

Good luck!

9 years I have worked for the company, in my department there is 30 but there are redundancies in other departments too. I have asked HR if bringing it forward is a possibility I have to give 28 days notice so just waiting to see if it’s allowed when in consultation

If there's more than 99 in an organisation then you should a 45 day consultation period. They also need to give you a weeks notice for every year you have worked. With 30 days consultation and then 9 weeks notice I make your last day 18th July. So if they have a rule where they will pay you your occupational maternity pay if you're made redundant while on maternity leave - sounds like you should get it? Double check contracts/policies, seek advice from a union if you're in one.

I was made redundant on maternity leave - it worked out fine so don't think it's the end of the world.

(sorry that's more than 99 people being made redundant)

Thank you leg hair don’t care, I will also raise this with HR, I’m not in a union unfortunately
