Hi, sorry in advance if this is long.
Has anyone had twins under the care of Treliske hospital in Truro? I need some help from people with experience - and replies from mums at other hospitals as to what their antenatal schedule was like would help too.
I am currently 15+5 with presumed DCDA twins (placentas not identified/visualised at dating scan but Lambda was seen and sonographer believes them to be DCDA). Midwife at booking appointment explained usual antenatal schedule of appointments is consultant review at 16 weeks then alternate between herself and scans/ANC at fortnightly intervals until delivery. I am quite old (late 40’s) and this is an IVF pregnancy from donor eggs. I’m considered high risk as have family history of eclampsia and am borderline for BMI on midwife weight/height measurement.
I was seen early for my 16 week first consultant clinic contact by a Dr last week who said (and he documented in my hand held records) that I will be seen every 4 weeks after my 20 Week Scan for a scan and review in ANC at the hospital at the Sam ever time. I was happy with this as it tally’s with what my midwife previously said and appears to follow Royal College guideance for multiple pregnancies. Then I received a letter in the post for 23 weeks at a hospital that does not offer scans so I know it’s just a clinic appointment.
I rang hospital and queried this appointment and was first told by reception that it was made due to a medical implication with my pregnancy and is in addition to the schedule planned by the Dr and she put me through to the fetal medicine unit for them to explain further. Midwife/clinic assistant in fetal medicine department said Dr is wrong and that, for Treliske hospital, I only see their team at 16 weeks (last week’s appointment), between 30-32 weeks to discuss plans for delivery and then again if I go beyond planned delivery date or other issues arise. She said to cancel the appointment for 23 weeks as it’s not necessary. I queried the Dr saying that I would be seen in ANC after each scan and she said no, I am only scanned there and all antenatal appointments are with my community midwife.
I have left a message for my community midwife to contact me as it seems there’s a massive discrepancy between the two services about what antenatal care I’m actually going to get and who is going to provide it.
What I’m hoping to hear is what I put other mums of twins in Cornwall had in the way of antenatal appointments and who they were carried out by to see if I’m being precious or whether I’m being fobbed off with incorrect information by the hospital and whether what the Dr and my community’s midwife told me is correct and I should be being seen by hospital regularly.
Thanks in advance xx
