Do maternity jeans stay up better when you're further along?

Just that...
I bought some wonderful jeans from jojo maman bebe yesterday that fit perfectly, but they seem to be falling down.
I'm only 19 weeks and my bump isn't that big...

I found under bump jeans were better in the early months and over bump jeans were better in the later stages. At the very end, only dungarees would do! (I had a close to 11 pounder!)

They drive me mad I still have to yank them up! You can buy a material band that helps keep them up it makes it better. I'm 34 weeks and still pull them up but I've found over the bump jeans are better than under.

Darkstar4855 · 14/04/2019 10:43

Yes! My Jojo jeans had to be hitched up constantly until about 26 weeks but after that they were comfy right up until the end.

museumum · 14/04/2019 10:44

Everyone’s different. I couldn't bear over the bump, felt like they dragged my bump down. I liked under bump as I felt they gave the bump support.

Thanks ladies.
I got over the bump ones, but i also got a belly band that will hopefully help previous jeans stay up! ConfusedHmm

I kept hoping mine would fit better as I got bigger, but no luck Sad I'm 35 weeks now and if I want my jeans to stay up I wear braces (elasticated old man style - what dreams are made of!) under my shirt. I mostly wear dresses though, I've tried loads of maternity jeans and just come to accept that they aren't for me

Parent19876 · 14/04/2019 11:19

I bought some maternity dungarees from eBay and i am very excited to get them haha.

I would wear dresses and leggings, but i can't wear them to work :(

My body is just not a fan of clothes. Legs are too short, carry weight in my stomach, and small boobs. I was hoping this pregnancy might make me feel better but it's definitely been a mind trip so far. 🙄

I found a belt round the hip bit worked when I was on the in-between stage (or leggings and ditch the jeans). Now the jeans will stay up without the belt they feel like they're squishing the bump at the top!

So I'm ive given up and on the hunt for top half stuff that I can wear with leggings without being indecent...

PrayingandHoping · 14/04/2019 11:51

Can I ask why all under bump ones are either leggings or skinny jeans??? 😫 I hate tight fitting casual clothes!

Parent19876 · 14/04/2019 13:11

Im definitely taking these ones back :(
I haven't even left the house and I've been hiking them up all day- i hate baggy crotches the most.
I wonder if under the bump ones would be better...? Anyone have any ideas?

I got some from H&m that were great but they needed frequent washing to keep the band tight.

Over bump jeans/trousers/shorts will be your best friends for the next few years.....if your dramatic after baby weight loss was as quick as mine (about 3 years...). Finally had to give up the over bump yoga pants when they fell apart. In fact you've just reminded me I opened a seam at the top of the band and treaded through the type of elastic you get in kids clothes....added a button and I started tightening them, gradually loosening them as bump grew....then the opposite after giving birth....

Parent19876 · 14/04/2019 13:23

@User1474894224
These ones are over the bump and they still fall down! The band does feel nice and tight, so i don't get why they fall down!

I have been thinking of posting the same thread! I have 2 pairs of h&m over the bump skinnies. Both felt great in the changing room. First day on, barely walked a few hundred yards and I'm hitching them up - they are so flipping annoying!! Proper Nora batties. My JoJo boyfriend ones are a bit better. I'm also just 19 weeks so hoping they fit better once I'm a bit bigger.

Any recommendations for maternity tights that don't fall down? Don't mind the odd dress/tunic but my legs are not fit to be seen on their naked state!!

Parent19876 · 14/04/2019 13:29

Does anyone know if a tighter belly band would help?

I couldn't bear over the bump jeans. Felt so claustrophobic or something. I wore my normal jeans with ds1 until i was about 6 months 😮. That's only because i had zero interest in chocolate or cake (and as a result, tea) throughout my pregnancy. Couldn't fit one thigh into them now. Sad

AltogetherAndrews · 14/04/2019 13:34

In my experience some brands just didn’t work, and continually fell down. I think the only ones I had which were worth keeping were from next, over the belly. You need to go try different shops, as maybe different brands will suit different people depending on how they carry.

Blackboot1 · 14/04/2019 13:35

I gave up on all mine around 20 weeks but I'm 34 now so might give them another go. I was constantly hitching them up, just went with leggings and long tops after that.

user1474894224 · 14/04/2019 13:37

@Parent19876 - maybe I wasn't clear. I added additional elastic at the top of the band to hold them up over the bump.

Blackboot1 · 14/04/2019 13:37

I got maternity tights from ASOS. Got them in a larger size and they're very comfortable. They're opaque black ones so don't know about other types.

LetsDoThisAgain · 14/04/2019 15:35

It's hard to say. I had a pair of maternity trousers that fell down even at the end of the 3rd trimester. Ridiculous.

Brunilde · 14/04/2019 15:38

I'm 20 weeks and tuck the top under the bottom of my bra at the front. They stay up perfectly. Same with tights. I do have pretty big boobs so have a very robust bra Grin

Foxmuffin · 14/04/2019 15:40

They always fall down. But it gets a bit better. Then you get too fat for them and resort to joggers and leggings.

Sunshinegirl82 · 14/04/2019 15:41

I had to give up on jeans as they drove me mad! A friend had some from Gap which she said were really comfy (and they have non skinny options!)

I resorted to leggings as they were more comfy, I actually found the ASDA ones the best and they were really cheap too.

Best tights I found were boots own maternity tights although they only had thickish black. Got some nude ones from John Lewis for a wedding and they were pretty good too.

greyby25 · 14/04/2019 15:45

I had over bump maternity jeans in my first pregnancy from topshop in the Jaimie. Absolutely loved them never took them off. They are skinny but weren't too tight and always felt comfy and never had an issue keeping them up. I've just ordered two pairs but got under bump this time as I'm having twins and will have to get a support band soon, and over bump and support band seems overkill and I'll be too warm. Topshop do tons of styles and have underbump and over bump versions x
