Sorry a name thread but HELP!!!

I am 32 weeks pg with second child (no idea of the sex) and am totally at a loss as to what to call it if it's a girl. We have the name Jude Alexander if it's a boy but at the moment these are our favourite girls names. We already have a DD called Grace.

Alana (both mine and DH's favourite but not quite sure if it will "date")
Anna
Esme
Francesca
Alice

Any other traditional but not so common names anyone can give me would be appreciated! (Grace was number 20 when I had DD, now it is number 2 in the Baby name charts and I am fed up of hearing it!)

Personally don't think Alana sounds dated - have you checked it out for popularity?

Esme is nice, although is that the name of some animated cow? Not that it should matter of course...

You might feel inspired when she is born, if she is indeed a she.

Jude is nice. But you obviously think that!

Francesca is my favourite of your list, followed by Anna. Don't like Alana, sorry. The others are nice.

Fudge you are saying re Alana what I am thinking. Grace is a very timeless name (I think so anyway!) and so are Anna etc whereas Alana is bit more "glamour model" maybe! I still love it though so we will see.

Thanks everyone else, not too sure on Edie and Clara Muppet and Tutter. Thanks anyway!

Thing with Francesca is that I would go mad if anyone shortened it to Fran (sorry if anyone is called Fran!) as it reminds me of my rather snobby and unpleasant Great Aunt!

Alana to me is not a name I associate with any particular era. It's one of those names that is relatively unusual but not unheard of, you know people recognise it when they hear it but there aren't lots of them.

When I was a kid, if I was upset, my Granny would say to me "what's wrong alana?", as in Ireland it's a general name of affection for children

alana (anglicised versio of) a leanbh (translates to English as addressing a) child/baby

which of course you probably know, but it's just a sound that I find really comforting.

skidoodle I had no idea that is what they say in Ireland! Thanks for that snippet. How sweet! Alana is an irish name (I was surprised) but I like it as it is also a deritative of Helen (obviously my name!).
