Help! Confused after scan could be a miscarriage

Hello! I suppose I'm just looking for a bit of help and advice. I'm currently 7 + 3 and a couple of weeks ago ( at 5+3) I went to my EPU because of some pain and light pink discharge. They've done blood and urine test and scan. During the scan they've picked up that I have two sacs one measuring 5+3 the other 5+2. They've arranged another scan for today (2weeks later). My symptoms definitely got stronger, I'm off a lot of food, wee all the time, boobs are growing like mad and feeling sick and tired pretty much all day!
Today I've went for a normal maternity US where the lady pretty much after 10 second said she thinks that the sacs are empty. She didn't have my notes and results from two weeks ago so we told her what we were told back then. She then put her hands up in the air and said but there are no babies so I've had a missed miscarriage. We then went back down to the EPU, it turns out that she didn't even put down both sac's measurements on my report and in fact, the one sac they could compare to her notes has more than doubled since last week. My hcg was 10,000+ two weeks ago so they've done another blood test to confirm and they will do another scan tomorrow with another sonographer. The doc said they can't confirm miscarriage unless the sac is 27mm and empty or the pole is less than 12 mm by now. I am shocked and angry that the lady who did our scan today pretty much told me I've lost both babies when I'm feeling sooo pregnant.
Has anyone has any advice? I am so confused, shocked and sad!

I had a lot of early scans and the dates were all over the place. They didn't line up with my LMP until my 12 week scan.
That woman sounds extremely unprofessional.

Babybloom · 12/04/2019 11:32

@SickOfThePig thank you! I think I'm about right dates wise as I used to ovulate around 9-10 days after first day of period. I still refuse to believe it and the fact that she said I must have miscarried then the doc said they are not even allowed to confirm until such measurements aren't right. When did you first see the pole and heartbeat?

First scan around six weeks, no heartbeat. Heartbeat a week later but measurements out by about a week. I had another scan around 8 weeks but don't know the measurements and all was lining up at 13 weeks.

Babybloom · 12/04/2019 11:44

@SickOfThePig ah ok, so it's completely normal to grow in different pace. I'm glad all is well for you and I hope I'll get good news tomorrow and at least one of them is growing happy and healthy.

I dont think its growing at a different pace, it's that everything is so small, its hard to accurately measure and therefore the results are wrong. That's maybe why the dating scan is at 12 weeks, due to the bigger size, its more accurate.

SickOfThePig · 12/04/2019 11:49

I really hope you get good news tomorrow.

Babybloom · 12/04/2019 11:54

@SickOfThePig you must be right! Now as I've googled things, they all seem to be different and some say it's even normal not to see anything until 8 weeks. I am hoping for good news too! Thank you for your kind words and advice!

So sorry you are going through this. I think sometimes the medical profession forgets how to deal with patients in a more humane way. Empty sacs at 7 weeks is not, I'm sorry to say, a good sign. If you're dates were right and sac size appropriate at 5 weeks then you would expect to see a heartbeat by now. Unfortunately, it can take quite a while for your body to catch up hence you continued producing HCG and getting more intense pregnancy symptoms even for weeks after the embryo has failed to progress. It is a horrible, uncertain, upsetting limbo (been in your shoes 3 times). I really hope that the sonographer got things wrong . Best of luck for tomorrow.

Babybloom · 12/04/2019 12:11

@sebashocked it sucks really! I want to know for sure what is the case as I've been reading loads of forums and quite a few people said they've had no pole or heartbeat and when they went back they've had healthy babies. I just want to know really as this is so unfair! I'm sorry to hear you've had this 3 times. Thanks

Unfortunately I was getting very strong pregnancy symptoms right up until they diagnosed my missed miscarriage, which was at 10 weeks pregnant, but my baby never grew beyond 5 weeks. I started throwing up the day before the scan they used to confirm it. After two weeks and at 7 weeks you should have been able to clearly see a baby and a heartbeat. Although she didn't act in the most professional manner I think she is probably likely to be correct. Just think it would be worth preparing yourself for the worst tomorrow, but hope for the best 💐

Cookit · 12/04/2019 12:17

I had something similar but for me nothing ever developed in the sacs, my hormone got very high and the sacs kept growing for quite a while.
They were more thorough scans than yours sounds like though. Fingers crossed for good news for you.

Babybloom · 12/04/2019 12:27

Thank you both! I definitely want to prepare for the worst and in fact I am always preparing for the worst. I've had a funny feeling that after being super worried about the babies in the first few weeks, I've been quite calm about them in the last week but I thought it may be just me finally getting used to the thought. Who knows!! I'm trying to tell myself that it's happened for the better as they may have had some bad chromosomal abnormalities and may could have had some serious illnesses!

Was it an internal scan or an abdominal one? An internal one at 7+3 should show fetal pole and heartbeat but an abdominal scan might not, especially if your bladder wasn’t very full. Fingers crossed for better news tomorrow.

My3boys9910 · 12/04/2019 12:37

I had fetal pole at 5 weeksish but no heartbeat...went back at 7 weeks and there was a embryo with a heart beat...She sounds insensitive I'm sorry you were treated that way...But I think shes right...At 7+ something should be there.Flowers I've found so many times early pregnancy is treated as nothing by medical professionals...But to you they are your babies & deserve more support. Not fair x

Amongstthetallgrass · 12/04/2019 12:46

Baby I’ve done US training and it’s quite easy to pick up a heart beat at 6W + I could find one in less than a minute. If she was looking for around ten mins and couldn’t find one then I’d prepare for the worst I’m afraid Flowers

It really doesn’t go of the measurement of the sack to see if life have managed to hang on in there.
