Midwife calculating wrong due date? Anyone had this?

I've had my booking appointment and the due date is a week earlier than my early scan and working it out from last period! All my apps, early scan and own calculations work it out a week later. Doesn't fill me with hope! Or do the measure from a week before your period starts? So confusing!

I also didn't get asked any question by myself about domestic violence so maybe she was just a bit rubbish? Annoying it's all on my notes though.

Are you experiencing domestic violence?

Leleophants · 11/04/2019 11:47

No but I was told every woman should get asked about this but she didn't. I just thought it was unprofessional. My main concern is the due date issue.

I had a gp calculate it as a month after it should have been, so 44 weeks, no thanks! Don't worry as they will adjust after your 12 week dating scan anyway

Hiphopopotamous · 11/04/2019 11:48

How early was your early scan? Mine was apparently too early for dating, it needs to be over 9 or 10 weeks.

Waitingonasmiley42 · 11/04/2019 11:55

Sorry I'm not totally clear what you mean. They calculate it based on your last period. They usually go with this until after dating scan and an earlier private scan wouldn't matter.

Leleophants · 11/04/2019 11:56

My scan was just under 10 weeks. She didn't even bother to look at it. Also the number of weeks I am supposedly pregnant means I became pregnant a week before my period (!) And when I was still om contraception. Just find it really confusing.

Calculating on my last period would mean I am 10 weeks not 11 and a half like she estimater. So she's said I became pregnant a week and a half before my period started.

It's only a week.

Just wait till your dating scan.

From my experience you'll be lucky to see the same midwife more then once so even if she wasn't very experienced it doesn't really matter.

Angelinthenightx · 11/04/2019 12:00

They go by the 1st day of your last period, thats what ive always had and what they do here. Even when ive went for scans the date has never changed.

Leleophants · 11/04/2019 12:02

Yep and first day of last period means she is completely out! I don't get how she thinks I was pregnant before my pregnancy started.

Before my period started

It really doesn't matter. Very few babies arrive on their due date anyway!
I have short cycles but that wasn't really taken into account. My original due date was 14 September but I knew it was actually earlier. My dating scan said 6th September but he arrived 25th August 🤷
It's not worth worrying about.

As for the domestic violence thing ...they're trained to pick up signs.

sunshine1987 · 11/04/2019 12:05

It really doesn’t matter much at this stage, at your scan they will re-date you and that becomes your date for the rest of your pregnancy

Longtalljosie · 11/04/2019 12:05

You may see another one next time. But even if you don’t just say you’re confused about your due date, you think it should be xxx.

pastabest · 11/04/2019 12:05

The dates will be corrected once you have your official scan so it doesn't really matter.

Depending on how your midwives work there's every chance she won't be the midwife you have for every appointment if you don't like her.

I don't think I was asked about DV in any if my 3 booking appointments but there was loads of information in the maternity pack that said how to raise it either the midwife in appointments if you needed to.

I think if you take a partner with you it's more likely to prompt them to ask them to leave so they can ask but if you attend on your own then you have the opportunity to bring it up anytime yourself

BiscuitDrama · 11/04/2019 12:06

How long are your cycles?

It should be when you conceived minus two weeks, which is usually when your period starts.
Is that the case for you?

Leleophants · 11/04/2019 12:10

Nope I agree with all of this - I calculated the first day of my last period. Period day 1 is the first day of week 1. She got it wrong.

Checked my notes and she wrote down my period starting a different day Shock so glad I checked and didn't imagine I was being crazy.

BiscuitDrama · 11/04/2019 12:11

Aha, glad you worked it out!

Leleophants · 11/04/2019 12:11

Also I was with my husband and she didn't ask. So just massively unprofessional as I was told she would. So many things she did wrong I hope I don't get her again!

Thanks everyone! Just shows you have to be on top of everything Confused

I get pregnant and then had a period. The only way to know for sure is measurements on the dating scan.

ispepsiok · 11/04/2019 12:16

First world problems! You know that the baby is highly unlikely to stick to the due date that you're so insistent on?

I'm also not surprised that she didn't ask about DV, if she'd have booted your husband out of the room surely he would've asked why? If you were in a DV situation then that could've potentially put you in more danger.

user1539506092 · 11/04/2019 12:17

I'm pretty sure I was told the EDD was plus/minus 7days? Could be wrong?

HappyMama01 · 11/04/2019 12:23

Mine was wrong throughout my entire pregnancy. No one ever got it right. They all thought I was ten days overdue when they induced me, and they actually induced me early!
It's never really exact.

ShutTheFridgeUp · 11/04/2019 12:24

She wouldn't have asked about DV if your husband was in the room. They would try to find a reason for your husband to leave first before they ask you. If this wasn't possible or appropriate, you may find that you are asked at other MW appointments that you attend on your own.
