It can happen for a number of reasons, dont panic - it regenerates, and is not really a big indicator of labour.

That being said, if you are really worried seek reassurance from your mw. But as I said, it 'grows back' and woman can loose it weeks before their due date and still have to be induced, so it really isn't a "labour is coming" kind of thing.
