Hi I am having my first, I haven’t been to any classes and I probably won’t have time now I’m due in a few weeks. I’m worried I’ve made a mistake. I don’t know breathing techniques however I’ve done a lot of research on breast feeding so I will be ok with that. Did any of you not go to any classes?x

I recommend buying the "Natal hypnotherapy" CDs and listening to them every night. This will help with breathing and relaxation, and everyone I know who used them found them really helpful.

One of the main pros of antenatal classes is meeting other couples in the same situ, which helps build a support group when you're new parents. We did NCT but have lost touch with most of them, however still very good friends with people I met through mother & baby yoga after baby was born.

Research some courses like Sing & Sign, post-natal mum and baby yoga etc to find a social circle post-baby.

I've never attended an antenatal class or read a birthing/baby book in my life, I'm on 4th pregnancy and don't intend to as I found my way and that mother instinct just kicked in. From my experience your body just knows what to do and the midwife supports you through birth. I can't tell you the classes are useless obviously as I have no idea but I can tell you you don't need to attend them to know what you are doing and adapt to motherhood. Good luck and congratulations xxx

We just did the weekend classes the hospital offered & found them useful along with hospital tour. Also brought the digital pack from Positive Birth Company - highly recommend that.

I never went to a single one and I just read bit and bobs on the internet and I felt just fine and fully prepared. He’s four now and I didn’t feel I missed out. I’m pregnant again and won’t be doing any classes!

I never had any either. I did read a lot though, ina may gaskin etc. You’ll be fine, don’t worry x

The main benefit is to make friends who are sharing your experience. Worth it for that if you still can! You can get all the information on the internet. Several sites have useful weekly emails you can sign up for.
