Hi Mumsnet!

I am currently about 12 weeks pregnant (dating scan tomorrow but had a private scan who said I was just over 10 weeks a couple of weeks ago).

I have recently moved into a private flat, the landlady said she didn’t want kids here (the woman that viewed before me was pregnant) however when asking her why she didn’t accept that lady I assumed and over talked her saying was it because of health and safety - there are about 10+ carpeted steps to come up as soon as you open the front door. She said yes however I think this was also due to money problems the lady may have had as she mentioned the lady saying she would need to talk to her uncle before putting a deposit down.

I have signed my tenancy which states children can’t live here but I am trying to figure out why this is as the neighbours have children and there is literally a school around the corner. I do love this flat however if I have to leave then so be it. I intend to write to the estate agent and ask for permission to stay or atleast until baby is 6 months or so. I have rent arrears with my local council can anyone else suggest what else I can do, a lot of private places don’t want families?

Hiya, first of all congratulations on your pregnancy.
Unfortunately I can't help with your current tenancy but if you can afford to private rent, why don't you go and private rent directly from a housing association? There's more security, a residents association and no chance of a silly clause like 'no children' in your rental agreement.

Best of luck.
