If you had a quick first birth?

I'm due to have my second child next month. My first arrived very quickly. Labour was okay but the end of it and actual delivery was very fast. It was very overwhelming and I was in shock afterwards, but okay in the grand scheme of things.

Trying to prepare myself for another quick birth.

If you had a quick first birth, how fast were your subsequent ones?
Did you feel better prepared the second (even third, etc) time?
How soon after labour started with your second did you go to hospital?

I had 4 very quick labours. Went into hospital and had fully dilated with all 4 in a couple of hours and delivered all between 4am and 5am with one push!!!

My first birth was 4 hours from waters going (No contractions at that point) to baby arriving. I was fully dilated when I arrived at the hospital. 1.5 hours of it was pushing as he was back to back and moved around rather than down. Little sod.

No 2 arrived in 90 mins so quicker. 2 pushes and she was out. That was quite a shock but the midwives had warned me the 2nd labour was likely to be even quicker and they were right!

Good luck!

My first was around 4 hours and second was under two hours.

First labour the active part is recorded as 45 minutes.
Second is a hour & third is about a hour again, didn’t get to examine me as baby was back to back.

Both v quick, but second marginally slower. First was about 2hrs 50 from 'I feel funny, is something starting?' to baby. Second about 3 hours 20. Second was a water birth which might be why it was slower? Otherwise very similar labours; contractions started about 4 minutes apart, waters broke late, baby out in one push. I opted for a home birth with dd2 as I was worried about it being much faster and not getting to hospital in time. My community midwife told me to stress to the labour ward how quickly my first had been so that they took it seriously, which seemed to work as they sent the midwives out to me straight away!

Good luck!

I'm just going to watch this thread as I have the same question. My first birth was 3hrs30mins. I've been referred to the home birth team but I'd really prefer to give birth in hospital.

Very quick first labour, 2nd and 3rd births I was actually in labour for longer but the pushing stage was much quicker. The third was only a few pushes. Quite a few years between 1st and 2nd babies so possibly why labour was longer.

I felt better prepared for labour and contractions, but to be honest I got a shock at the pushing stage with my 2nd. He came so fast and I didn't remember it being so painful when pushing him out. Third I was the most prepared.

Went to hospital with my 2nd when I started to get sore, was 6cm.
